He's actually kinda figured out how to hit last couple seasons...

Yeah I had completely forgotten that he's actually a good player now. The impression of him as an overpaid scrub is hard to shake.

They should have worn name tags.

Adding an underpaid 4-5 WAR outfielder I guess

I hope not.

As for the other part, I wouldn't trade Lawrie, Norris & Sanchez for Donaldson. Donaldson has likely peaked and will be getting paid soon. So we'd essentially be paying for past performance on an asset unlikely to be getting better. And giving up young players not yet in need of being "paid" and heading into their prime opposed to away from it.

These Cuban guys (Puig, Cespedes, Abreu) have been such a steal. Getting signed in their early 20's to (fairly) team friendly multi year deals.

Abreu's 28 in January....not young when he signed.

He's had a surprisingly decent career. He just doesn't look like a glove first 3B but that's really been what's kept him valuable. Now he's hitting better for even note value.

You kind of need players who are actually good though, even if they're older than 27. Otherwise you get your DDL squad.

Question. Why do people who ridicule me going young, all of a sudden have a strong interest in my players when their old players are retiring or fall off a cliff?

The two aren't really related. You can disagree with how someone manages hit team overall and still covet some of theirs assetts. I don't care much for how the Jays are managed overall right now but that doesn't mean they don't have some good assetts.

Obviously because good young players are desirable assets. If you refuse to mix in quality vets you're probably going to do a lot of losing though.

When a comment is made about my DDL team and I ignore the part about how the Jays are managed and address the DDL comment, how is that not related?

If they're desirable, then people need to keep their yaps shut.

I'm not sure what to tell you here. If you're saying that people who criticize your team shouldn't covet your players because you'll cut them off, that's your choice but you're the one whose making the two things related when really they're not.

When did I say I would cut them off?

All I'm saying is, it's very odd people would ridicule me for going young and chose themselves to go old, but then want the same young players they were ridiculing me for owning.

I don't think anyone is ridiculing you for owning young players though. What they are ridiculing you for (and I think ridiculing is a bit rich a description but I digress) is for not seeming to have an end game. That perception may be wrong or right but it's the crux of the issue. No one has a problem with young players per say.

As KingKat says, it's possible to have desirable assets on a team that isn't competitive. Most bad teams have desirable assets. If you want to actually win games, you can't be afraid to roster older players though. Four years of Josh Donaldson (maybe 7-8 years - who knows?) does more for this team than a collection of younger, cheaper players who aren't close to as good.

I don't think you can take the position you take and still field a viable team.

I have a strategy (end game) and it doesn't involve overpaying ever/often to make a huge push for the now. Unlike most Fantasy managers I'm patient and don't have this insatiable need to contend ASAP.

And maybe the comments made in regards to my youth were directed at my entire team being young and some of the players I roster not contributing right away thus dealing a huge blow to my chance of competing.

Are you talking Fantasy or real baseball? Because you mentioned "cheaper".

Both, I guess, though I'm a lot closer to agreeing with your approach to real baseball when salaries are involved.

Being a fan of the Rays process, I don't know how you couldn't be.

So apparently Hardy signed for a 3 year deal with an option for close to 40 million. Pretty cheap deal for the Os.

f***. Damn Orioles.

I thought jaysfan2014 told us Hardy was as good as gone?

Great deal for the Orioles. I thought he'd get at least 4/48 on the open market.

Hometown discount I guess, says he likes playing for the O's.

Holy s***, really?

I thought the Yanks might back up the Brinks truck for him.

But you know, they might consider trading for Reyes. I know we have no one to replace him, but if we wanted to shed payroll to get other players, the Yanks might be a partner.

He also said the Tigers would slaughter the Orioles.

Damnit. He also said the Red Sox won't make the playoffs next season, which means they definitely will. Crap.

I'm guessing they'll overpay for Hanley now, but I'm sure they'd have interest in Reyes. Maybe if they Jays took back Beltran or Gardner to offset the salaries somewhat (preferably Gardner).
