I really wouldn't be surprised if Washington was fired over the next few weeks. They need to try something drastic.

Washingtons not the problem . The lack of talent is. No pitching except for Darvish and injuries all over.

The rangers have experienced some of what the Jays went through in 2013 and even 2012. I guess Daniels is a moron for not having much depth.

did the Jays ever have 14 players projected for over 18 fWAR on the DL at the same time? I'm not defending Daniels as he's made a lot of moves in the past two years that I didn't like...just don't think the two scenarios are similar.

Kevin Kouzmanoff (Better than Lawrie), the replacement of the replacement got hurt.

Has there been any talk that the Blue Jays would get any of the Sunday Night ESPN games now that we are actually in a race for a division title? IIRC the 2nd half has not been made up for the schedule because they wait to see which teams are good and bad. It not like we don't have star players to draw people in either (Bautista, EE, Reyes)

Jeebus, don't add the t=39 part to the link when the part of the clip that's remotely funny is before 39 seconds in!

Phillies finally really truly nosediving

2-8 over the last 10. Getting owned by the Marlins every time they play them

Now 10.5 games out of first and dead last in the division

Is Amado Jr despaired enough to trade Utley or a starter with salary relief?

ESPN thinks the only teams in MLB are in LA, Chicago, Boston, and other US big markets. They won't give Toronto a Sunday Night Baseball because Canada is ratings poison.

So how does this work anyway? Do they take games that are currently scheduled for the afternoon and turn them into night games at ESPN's request?

.@Solarte26 confirmed to @ESPNDeportes that he was sent down to Triple A

Not sure the context but amusing since he's the 4th best hitter on the team

I always thought the ratings would be decent because there are a lot of Canadians who live in the US or at least a lot of Blue Jay fans. Look no further to our road games to see how many Blue Jay fans are south of the border.

White Sox To Release Scott Downs

By*Zach Links*[July 3, 2014 at 11:31am CDT]

The White Sox have requested waivers on left-hander*Scott Downs*for the purpose of granting him his unconditional release, tweets*Scott Merkin of MLB.com. *The White Sox designated Downs for assignment late last month.

Over 23 2/3 innings for the White Sox, Downs recorded a*6.08 ERA with a better-than-usual*8.4 K/9 clip but an alarmingly high 5.7 BB/9 mark. *Still, ERA estimators are kinder to Downs, as he owns a 3.69 FIP, 4.07 xFIP, and 3.96 SIERA.

While his 58.5% strand rate is one mark that looks prime for regression, that is also perhaps a reflection of the fact that he has been less than successful in his LOOGY role. On the other hand, Downs has held opposing left-handed hitters to a .225/.309/.367 mark; his real issue has been with righties, who own*a .296/.415/.364 triple-slash against him.

I've always been a huge Scott Downs fan. You can never have enough pitching and he can be a decent LHP out of the pen.

Very good analysis here.

lol

What is the criteria/definition of a good play and a misplay?

Would good plays follow the same criteria as Buck & Pat's red stars on scorecards?

LOL. probably about as scientific.

If it's gritty or not.

Some guys make plays "look better" often because they're shorter, their range can be deceiving, or they dive for balls they don't need to.

Pedroia has a knack for making every play look amazing - it's annoying.

I'd rather it be based on the distance covered and how fast the ball was moving in order determine this.
