Bedard vs Lester today so things aren't looking any better for the Rays. I know I'm rooting for the Rays today.

Bedard had some good games until he saw out lineup. So you never know.

Well, I'm hoping for about the same, except I can never root for the Rays to win, and I'm also hoping that Josh Lueke, while on the mound, is sodomized by a woman wielding a 34" regulation baseball bat. And then anyone responsible for hiring him and retaining his services is next.

TAMPA RAYPISTS

Well the matchup certainly favours the Red Sox today. If the Jays win and Rays lose, it's going to be an almost insurmountable lead for the Rays to overcome (not impossible, but highly unlikely).

WTF?! Bryan Morris is a generic 27-year old reliever. The Marlins could have gotten a much better reliever had they shopped the pick around me-thinks.

lol Loria wtf

Why would you even be shopping the #39 pick for a reliever period?

Because you don't want to pay someone a $1.5M bonus?

Yeah, but you can get more than a reliever for that. That's a fairly valuable pick, you'd think they could get a starter or something.

Alex has been stolen again!

Delabar for ......................Nick Howard, Ti'quan Forbes orMonte Harrison could be great!!

Oh, I know. This trade doesn't make any sense.

Morris has next to no MLB value.

Yeah, that's what I meant lol.

Loria is a confusing dude.

Morris isn't even better than what's always available via the waiver wire. Weird trade.

JFaS is going to come in and say the pick is worth $7M or something lol. This pick is just as good as what you get for a player declining the QO.

Where is BTS at...... I feel him lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce on the first extended sustained losing streak.

Since when is it possible to trade draft picks?

It's a competitive balance pick. The current CBA created two small extra rounds in which low-revenue teams get extra pick(s), which are tradable.

The Competitive Balance Draft is designed to give teams in small markets, or who have minimal revenue, additional high draft picks.

Comp Round A

1. Colorado Rockies

2. Baltimore Orioles

3. Cleveland Indians

4. Miami Marlins <--------- This lol

5. Kansas City Royals

6. Milwaukee Brewers

Comp Round B

1. San Diego Padres

2. Arizona Diamondbacks

3. St. Louis Cardinals

4. Tampa Bay Rays

5. Pittsburgh Pirates

6. Seattle Mariners

And St. Louis and Pittsburgh.

I understand those teams, small to mid markets but Seattle is a much bigger market then those 2

I wonder about how Loria went about this... Did he call around telling other GMs he was shopping the pick? In this case I don't think he did, because if he did, I'm sure some team would have willing to part with something better than a reliever of his "talent"level

Loria: You guys HAVE to trade this pick this morning. I don't care what we get. Get rid of it. GET RID OF IT NOW RIGHT NOW

Marlins: [um.. okay. We don't want to be fired. We can probably get something done with Pittsburgh since we have a good relationship with Huntington.]

Marlins: Neil, what could you give us for the #39 pick? We are going to give it to you this morning. Owner's orders.

Huntington: Um... okay. You can have Bryan Morris. He throws hard.

Marlins: Alright. Send Morris on a plane. We'll take him. You can file the trade with Selig.

Loria: Well done, boys.

That's probably what happened, honestly.
