Again:

There's no "rule" at work here but here's what I would suggest...

Over the next week another 30+ players will be designated for assignment, waived or released.

If we claim or sign one it deserves a thread because we need to talk about where they might fit

If not I would put the news in around baseball. If we want to talk about how an available player might be a fit for us the roster thread is a good place

Prepare for the "why was my thread deleted?" thread. Followed by the "why was my 'why was my thread deleted?' thread deleted?" thread.

Lol. Made me laugh.

I won't delete them anymore. Will merge to here. Should have done that with the Francouer one.

Unlike the Rangers, the Blue Jays do have payroll flexibility coming in 2 years. Texas will be haunted by that Fielder, Choo, Harrison, and even Elvis Andrus' deal in the next few years, especially when they need a C, OF help, a 3B to replace Beltre, and a closer.

Well, that'll mean he'll retire a Red Sox. Good move by them to keep him locked up long term, especially considering they can't afford to lose him, as he's the part of the lineup that makes the team contend.

It's already bad enough they lost Ellsbury, as they couldn't afford to lose Ortiz as well.

Next up, Jon Lester..

are other team's message boards starting "Luis Perez outrighted" threads

Yes. And then came the "Why was my Luis Perez outrighted thread deleted?" threads.

not sure how this news isn't here, but:

Rangers announce Jurickson Profar has a torn teres major muscle. Will miss 10-12 weeks.

It's been in a few of the other threads, but it should have been here instead.

The Andrus deal is very bad. Texas should have waited on him but I think there's an opt out in his deal, maybe it's a player one. But, you don't know what their budget will be in 2 years from now, they could easily have more flexibility than the Jays depending on their ownership. With their TV deal, and the quality of their team, I see them spending a lot of money for the near term to maintain their competitiveness.

The Jays on the other hand, we have no clue where the team's internal spending cap will be in 2 years. It could drop to 100m for all we know and they might still make a bad trade or two before then or sign an overpaid vet etc... It's not like they are going to be competitive this year, who knows what will happen.

So you're trying to say the Jays are in better position as an org moving forward, than the Texas Rangers?

I would probably take the Jays lineup right now over the current Rangers lineup. Profar missing 10-12 weeks really hurts and could be a huge loss.

Reyes, Cabrera, Bautista, EE, Rasmus, Lawrie, Lind, Navarro, Goins vs. Choo, Andrus, Beltre, Fielder, Rios, Moreland, Martin, Soto, Rosales

As for pitching, obviously the Rangers have a younger and more talented pitching staff. Darvish is a beast, Holland when healthy is fantastic, Martin Perez, Ogando, Harrison, Robbie Ross, etc. Currently, the Rangers rotation does have its question marks after Darvish & Perez. They have Joe Saunders and Tommy Hanson listed in their rotation, and Scheppers as the No. 2 guy. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Rangers get lucky with a reclamation project they just signed like Tommy Hanson, but I don't expect much from him. As for the BP, I'd say the Jays and Rangers are both a wash.

Long term, I still prefer the Rangers with Darvish, Holland, and Perez locked up into their rotation and guys like Profar, Andrus at the MLB level and Gallo, Luke Jackson, Odor, and Alfaro coming up through the system. However, they will have two awful contracts in the next 2-3 years that will be immovable in Choo and Fielder, who likely will impact their payroll. Beltre is getting older, Rios is gone obviously when he's a FA, Martin isn't anything special in CF, and they don't have a great catcher that could bridge them to Alfaro. The Jays will have a bunch of contracts off the books after 2015/2016 with Dickey, EE, Bautista, and MB. They still have Reyes locked up through 2017, and Lawrie will still be under control. Pitching wise, you expect Hutch, Stroman and Sanchez up with the big club, unless they are traded and hopefully the Jays strike with someone like Nay, Osuna, Norris, Davis etc.

One of the key pieces in the Fister trade for a 37 year old non-roster invitee.

Lmao.

Well, that's you mate. The Rangers are much sounder moving forward, I've never shook a stick at the Birds now. I'm talking as an org.

I said I would take the Rangers moving forward as well; even with the Choo and Fielder contract.

As for comparing both teams this season, I'd probably take the Jays lineup over the Rangers. Pitching wise, the Rangers have question marks since Holland is injured, though I'd still obviously take a rotation of Darvish, Perez and whoever else they have.

Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot more players going down this ST maybe I am just imagining s***.

I don't think more players, but maybe more serious injuries.

I feel like I think the exact same thing every time spring training rolls around.

Rays depth took a hit:

Jeff Passan

‏@JeffPassan

Rays pitcher Alex Colome suspended 50 games for PEDs.

Good thing they still have Karns, Romero(Enny) and Mike Montgomery still in AAA. However, another injury to the Rays MLB pitching staff though could be troublesome, however.
