KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Michae Taylor straight up beasting for the A's this spring (.308/.390/.615/1.005) but he's out of options. http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140304&content_id=68684778¬ebook_id=68714542&vkey=notebook_oak&c_id=oak
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Rangers REALLY need a 2B now. Profar is out 8-12 weeks with a muscle tear. Maybe they can take Maicer Izturis off our hands? http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24498015/rangers-jurickson-profar-out-up-to-4-months-with-torn-shoulder-muscle I'm sure the Rangers sign Stephen Drew or go after Danny Espinosa through trade.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 I'm sure the Rangers sign Stephen Drew or go after Danny Espinosa through trade. Between Detroit and now Texas, Drew is basically guaranteed a job any day now.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Does Daniels call Boras tonight or the other way around? I wish it were AA making that call.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Zero chance of either thing happening. Espinosa is expected to make the Nationals roster, and Texas doesn't have even a dime to throw to Stephen Drew, with the payroll at $131.44M. And the Tigers won't spend anymore money, as Illitch won't give another dime at the moment with his age and potential health concerns.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 and lack of talent. Michael Taylor > Moises Sierra

That won't be cheap.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 At least $27.5M-$30M/year for Miguel Cabrera, likely a 3-5 year deal. Easy to think he could easily get up to $150M on a 5 year deal, being the best hitter in the game.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 It's crazy that Texas' payroll is the same as ours. It all starts with yu darvish, if AA actually did some real international scouting he would have bid a substantial amount. That trade with the mets wouldn't have happened and we're talking about d'arnaud as our cather, Syndergaard & Sanchez knocking on the door.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I'm sure the Rangers sign Stephen Drew or go after Danny Espinosa through trade. Too short-sighted IMO. Rosales is replacement level (almost Goins'esk with less defensive potential) but Odor is going to be in AAA to start the season and Luis Sardinas likely in AA. Even as just 20 years old no sense putting yourself in another Profar situation. Even Bostick in High A looks solid.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Between Detroit and now Texas, Drew is basically guaranteed a job any day now. I'm not convinced that we're out of the sweepstakes just yet. Hitting in this lineup and a good park has to be enticing on a one year bounceback deal.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 It may not matter, as Texas is looking at prospect Rougned Odor for 2B as well, but he hasn't played above A+ ball. Other options for Texas include: Brent Lillibridge Adam Rosales Kensuke Tanaka Josh Wilson Other options could appear as well by the end of spring training.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 What's amazing is that they still have Profar, Odor, Perez, Ross, Scheppers, Martin, and Choice either in the majors making the minimum, or ready to make the jump this season. Combine that with young established talent locked up on fair deals (Holland, Andrus, Darvish), and you have a team that was able to make commitments to vets like Beltre, Fielder, and Choo without crippling their payroll flexibility. Great org IMO. Those bolded names will be albatrosses soon

Hitting in this lineup and a good park has to be enticing on a one year bounceback deal. I agree that, from Drew's perspective, Toronto is a great match on a one-year deal. With Goins manning second (and now Reyes possibly significantly injured), AA should be calling Scott Boras yesterday. I wonder if he even has his phone number though.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Does Daniels call Boras tonight or the other way around? Boras made the call as soon as he heard the news ,. I can just hear his voice dripping with false sympathy .I don't think Texas bites . I still see Illich finally stepping in and giving Drew a 1 year deal after the season starts so he can't get a QO .
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Unfortunately, yes. And Matt Harrison's contract should be added to the list too, due to his frequent injuries. And their catching is still a mess, as Alfaro is many years away.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I don't think Choo will be. He may fall $10-20 million below "even" over the life of the contract, but Texas isn't really in a position to care. Fielder worries me. He is a poor man's Bobby Abreu, only inflation shall save that contract from a disaster.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 And if he suffers an injury that makes it difficult for him to play the OF, Choo's contract will be even worse.

Well he has the number since Boras keeps phoning both Beeston and AA but he has been told to NEVER dial those #,s Boras says that he and Paul have made up but the day the jays sign a Boras client Beeston will roll over in his grave because he will have been long dead .
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Reyes is feeling better. No point in talking about Drew. Only way this happens is if AA doesn't want Goins at 2B.
