Here is the word I'm hearing...the Cano deal happens and they say yes to the Price deal they have on the table. Cano doesn't sign and the Price deal doesn't happen.

Meaning one of ackley or franklin are pieces for the Price trade? or the team is willing to change their entire direction off one player??

I would guess that Ackley is a player in the deal. At least he'll be able to embrace his Saber side in TB (Eric Wedge blamed Ackley listening to people talking about advanced metrics on his poor hitting. His hitting coach/manager was telling him to stop taking the first pitch despite Ackley's success in the minors being accredited to his taking the first pitch by most scouts). I don't think he'll be as good as I once did but he's still going to be a solid major leaguer.

That would be crazy if they got those 2 players.

If they do, I fully expect them to make at least one more big signing.. most likely another bat.

Rogers just spent 5.2 billion on NHL TV rights ..... What's another 24-25 million dollars a year for one of the best second basemen of all time

If all this happens it will remind me a lot of the Jays pre-season last year. More hype than substance (and a severe hit to their depth)...however unlike the Jays they will surround Cano with an offense full of mid-20 somethings.

Looking something like this

OF - Franklin LF 23, Almonte RF 24, Saunders CF 27 (an ugly ugly OF)

1B - Smoak 27, 2B - Cano 30, SS - Miller 24, 3B Seager 25, C - Zunino 22, DH Montero 24.

Losing Hultzen is what really makes trading for Price a bad deal IMO...assuming Paxton and Taijuan are gone in the deal.

Cano won his ring already... Does anybody really think he cares about loyalty at this point? Not to mention, the guy is as smug as it gets... Expect this guy to take the top offer, even if it's by a few mil or an extra year.

Does he reject or accept? What team is going to give him 240, the Mariners are already offering 225?

I wonder maybe Cano is telling them he'll sign if they show they're serious about winnng, in essence telling them that if they land Price via trade...

I also for got to take into consideration that Seattle's new 2 billion dollar tv deal that starts in 2014. I still think 10 years is too long, but... I guess they'll have the money to spend

I don't think he cares about loyalty, I think he cares about being a Yankee legend, like Jeter. He can't be that if he signs in Seattle

He's already at the top of many Yankee all time hitting stats, and arguably their best 2b ever. He couldn't care less at this point. It's all $$$ to him and that talentless hack Jay-Z.

I'm fine with Cano signing with Seattle. It would take a few wins from Texas and Oakland for the wild card race. I just don't want the Rays to be able to get a monster package from Seattle as a result of the signing to get David Price.

No chance he gets recognition as a Yankee legend if he plays half his career for another team. You gotta remember this is a franchise where even just being above average, like pettitte's, gets you hall of fame talk, when pettitte's numbers are comparable to mark Buerhle for his career. The help, prestige and legacy of career Yankees is massive. i don't think anyone actually remembers that Pettitte pitched for the Astros for 3 years, and admitted to using PEDs

Oh don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the guy leave New York.

One ellsbury injury, Jeter pulled groin and texeira DL stint and they be running a very interesting lineup.

It hasn't happened yet but just for fun...

If Cano leaves, do they replace him directly at 2B, or use this as an excuse to move Jeter to 2B and look to get a better defensive shortstop??

Posted
Yup

These owners should police themselves and collude to never give out deals more than 5-6 years or something

More important question is whatvAA is doing

Hopefully upgrading the rotation. Meanwhile, he laughs hysterically as bad teams snatch expensive free agents away from good teams, thus levelling the playing field.

AA took a 3 week vacation to celebrate and applaud himself for acquiring Kratz, Rasmussen and Navarro

To Santorini sipping wine and eating grape leaves stuffed with fatty cheese?
