z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Gotta love the off season! I feel like Bautista will be traded, but not in the off season. I think it'll be around mid to late July next year as the team admits the "all in" strategy didn't work. He and EE will fetch quite the haul for the next rebuilding phase. This is when a team needs to s*** or get off the pot. Nothing good can come from 'half trying' to contend. We need to spend more cash or rebuild ASAP. The 'all-in' could have worked if we had a Ricky Romero and Brandon Morrow who were any good. If we don't spend to fill those gaps, its time to trade Reyes, EE, and Bautista, which would get us a s*** LOAD.

Well, they won't do the rebuild now, but I feel they'll admit defeat either by next July or next off season, in the mean time, they'll probably trade Stroman and or Sanchez.
Randy The Robot Verified Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I like his bat, but he's a real defensive liability. Any idea if scouts think he can become a lg-average defender? Mediocre hitter plus awful defense. Stay away. Biddle, Franco, Ruf and Kendrick for Bautista and JPA. sounds good...
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Wow, you could totally be AA there rack of lamb and all
GNick Verified Member Posted November 15, 2013 Author Posted November 15, 2013 What can Jays trade to get a good starter if not Bautista or Encarnacion though?
GNick Verified Member Posted November 15, 2013 Author Posted November 15, 2013 They won't get a good starter unless trading one of Bautista or Encarnacion. Jays must be looking at a 4th starter type. Unless he purges what's left in the farm?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Lawrie, Rasmus, Reyes, Bautista, EE, Sanchez, and Stroman are the only pieces that open the door to a frontline starter Of these, Bautista is the one I would move.... pretty obvious

I highly doubt Jays are adding a frontline pitcher.

No problem moving Rasmus to RF and Gose to CF. Defense in the outfield would be vastly improved. I think it is time we get off the Bautista bandwagon before it crashes and I think it could be any year now.

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I hate the idea of dealing Rasmus. I think he finally figured it out last year. New stance, he seems comfortable. Guy is a potential superstar in the making if it all clicks. He seems like he likes playing here too. I wouldn't be surprised to see him extended. Anthony Gose in CF for the next 3-4 years is nauseating. Guy is not an MLB starter with that bat.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 If he signs for that, I would advise him to fire his agent. It's team friendly yes. But he's been year to year for quite a while now and figures to get no more than 5M in arbitration and have to prove himself again. I'm not sure he turns that down. And I'd go an extra 1-2M per year or add a 5th if needed to seal the deal.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Yeah I'm lowballing here aren't I?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Try 5 years, 65 million I don't think it would take that much. He hasn't earned a salary > 10M yet. He's had exactly one full really good season.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 You're right He's projected for 6.5 by MLBTR My offer needs to be revised. LOL. I think something like 4/40 would be fair. That would still make him a FA at age 31 for a big payday if his numbers stabilize nicely, and the team could presumably backload the contract to help for this year and next year's payroll issues. Maybe something like 5,5,15,15
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 New offer Rasmus 4 years 40M guaranteed, 5 years 54M with option 2014 - 8 2015 - 10 2016 - 10 2017 - 12 2018 - 14 (2 M buyout)

I think 5/65 is probably what it would take. Something where he gets $3M in 2014, followed by 12/16/17/17. It frees up a bit more for the coming year, and the 2015 salary is team friendly. From 2016 onwards a lot of money will be off he books which makes this type of contract work.

I would think AA tries to get it below his projected salary to free more money in the short term.

Yeah if AA extends him now he'll probably try to save in 2014 so he can afford pitching, hoping Stoman and Sanchez save him $$ after next year.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Has AA allowed any player to actually get to arbitration?? He usually seems to extend or do 1 year deals to avoid it.
