GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 What was JPA's biggest flaw actually? Bat speed? Poor eye? General idiocy? Easier to answer: What wasn't a massive flaw? lol

GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 He was a pretty good looking guy. Is this even a good sign anymore? Lawrie, Marisnick, pretty much anyone Boxy has ever liked.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Jpa is the next jays killer probably. How many games against the rays do we have left?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 “No one cares about strikeouts other than people that aren’t in the game,” he said, defiantly. “People who understand baseball understand that strikeouts, for myself, really don’t mean as much.” “I knew what I brought to the table. I knew that regardless of what happened here I was always going to be a starting catcher wherever I went. That being said, with all the rumour stuff, Alex (GM Anthopoulos) had straight up told me from the beginning, even Paul Beeston at the end of the year had expressed to me that I wasn’t going anywhere, so long before all this stuff went on I knew I wasn’t going anywhere.” DEEP THOUGHTS - JPA May 13th 2013
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Wow, JPA in AAA this year: 3.7% BB rate 30.9% K rate 99 wRC+ This guy is so bad.

Dr Negative Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I find baseball doesn't lend itself as well to handsome athletes as some other sports.

bendera3 Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 AAA 125 So, 15 BB Every time JPA comes up to bat he has a 30% chance of striking out, 5.4% chance of Dingerz, and 3.7% of walking.
deepz Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Arencibia is Kenny Powers minus the charm, likability, humor, and likability. Likability mentioned twice on purpose.

Caper Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 So many bad players constantly find themselves in 1-2 or 0-2 counts. JPA, it always seemed, would be up 2-0 or 3-1 and he'd just start hacking from there. Always would end up striking out swinging out of the zone.

reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Was there a worse catcher the Jays had that got regular playing time? Kevin Cash comes to mind, but at least he was capable defensively.

Sandy Martinez and Ken Huckaby were semi-regulars and weren't very good. By the way, 2003 Greg Myers was a good offensive catcher.

At least Kevin Cash turned into a decent manager for the Rays.. and Greg Myers was good in 2003.. too bad he got hurt in 2004, which led to Gregg Zaun getting picked up by the Jays (and you wonder why he's now doing the pre-game show for Sportsnet, considering he was in Toronto for 5 years after that.)

Usually players that produce so poorly get weeded out. By all rights, Yan Gomes should have stolen his job but he was no longer around to do that.

How are you enjoying this run they're on? I really don't mean that in a douchey way, but it's pretty much impossible for me to even imagine dropping a team I've always loved, so I'm just curious what this is like for you. Do you find yourself watching them more than maybe you have in recent years? Are you rooting for them at all? I've said before that I think you're secretly enjoying what's going on with them, but obviously I don't really know that.
