You're a stooge.

I take this as a compliment coming from someone who thinks that signing James Loney in free agency is a good idea. If you DIDN'T think I was dumb then I'd be kind of upset, honestly.

David Cooper is a better option for sure.

Since 2006..

Loney 11.0 WAR

Lind 6.3 WAR

Loney has roughly 600 more PA during that time frame. Lind put up a 4.o WAR in 2009 and hasn't touched anything above 0.5 in that span except for last years 1.9. Loney has pit up four + 2 WAR seasons in the same time period with a 2.7 WAR in 2013 and is a valuable defender. For $4mil less i'd take it.

Check out his career defensive stats, pretty impressive.

I guess I don't really know why you'd want a platoon 1B who's career production is 10% below the league average for a 1B and whose platoon advantage side is exactly league average for the position. At least Lind has shown evidence of actually being able to mash RHP.

Because it improves our infield defense dramatically, and solid pitching and defense is what wins championships.

Loney can probably be had for 2/$6mil type deal

Highly doubt it. He just had a 2.7 win season - he's not going to get paid like a mediocre bench player. Look for him to get an AAV higher than Lind's 7 million, and probably for a couple of years. Someone could get really stupid and give him even more than that.

How many times will he face a lefty? Not much.

Him DH'ing for the most part should take strain off a chronic back.

this is assuming that Ed can be healthy all year. I'd rather protect ed, who is amazingly more valuable to the team than Lind ever could be. that's why Loney makes more sense(if they can afford him)

Loney career FLD% 1B: .994

Lind career FLD% 1B: .993

LOL.. How many times has Lind saved an infielder's ass by scooping a bad throw versus Loney? How many assists as a first baseman on a season's average does Loney have over Lind? Range factor? Arm strength and accuracy? Please buddy.

Looney has no power

I dont care if a guy has power if he has a .400 OBP

hitting HRs doesn't win games as much as just not making fking outs. Cito ball is dead FFS

No, consistently scoring more runs than your opponent wins championships. Taking a 10-15% offensive hit to add like 5 defensive runs at 1B is a really, really bad idea.

Do you seriously stand behind this statement?

Posted
I would take him over Lind of course

He is a good hitter but at that corner positiom you need a power bat or you have to make one up at 3b

And we know about the man child who plays third

jays need a change in mentality top to bottom. they have enough power with Ed, Jose and Rasmus. the other 6 guys just need to not make stupid outs.

Posted
Nor can you use basic logic over stupidity? Loney has a MIF bat, that's horrible. You should jump off this rock man, it isn't steady at all.

Middle Infielder bat?

You seriously believe that decreasing projected offensive output by 10-15% so you can try to add 5 runs to your 1B defense is a sound strategy?

Loney adds more than the statistical differences state by a landslide, and no i'm not a Mark DeRosa fan.

lol ur comparing Delgado to Lind?

Hell no. When we got rid of Delgado there was an argument of getting 85% of the player for half the price or something like that. Other than that, Lind couldn't carry Delgado's jock.

you also have to take into consideration that Loney was an everyday player last year, whereas Lind was platooning quite a bit. If Loney was platooning his stats would look a lot better as he is a 220 hitter against lefties.

He's still only around an .800 OPS career guy vs RHP. Bat just doesn't make enough of an impact to make it worth it.

Nobody would ever platoon James Loney though - he doesn't hit RHP well enough.

wahahahhahahaha

He Suck against RH and 2xSuck against LH. He's like Daric Barton but lucky.
