daffy Verified Member Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Why hasn't there been any rumours? We are already a few days in here and nothing. In hockey, football and basketball a lot of the top guys are signed the first day. What gives?

That's what gives, in baseball nobody signs right away, give it a few weeks or even a month and a half. Most guys want deals done by Christmas

You'd think teams and players would want to get it out of the way. There haven't even been rumours let alone actual signings.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 We haven't been linked to a single free agent yet. May be meaningless but I'm not sure.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 We have been rumoured to be going after Iannetta/Conger, and Beckham/Danks + others Its not free agents, but its not like there hasn't been any rumours That's why I said free agents specifically. Trades yes it's been leaked that AA has inquired about those guys. And Ramos too. Problem is we need a SOLID free agent acquisition (or two) this off season. We don't have the trade chips to add enough wins. We need to buy some.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Beltran has been offered a contract by a mysterious team..there's a rumour right there
daffy Verified Member Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Just when I was thinking we needed a hockey fan to start a thread about how slow free agency is in baseball... Ok... I was actually wondering why we haven't heard anything.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Beltran has been offered a contract by a mysterious team..there's a rumour right there He will get offered contracts by 4-5 teams. Not coming here.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 The baseball off season is brilliant, but the first couple weeks are always slow. I have noticed my twitter feed has slowed in a serious way....perhaps guys are breaking/vacationing before the storm hits. I can't wait till the night when a jays trade or FA signing breaks and I'm glued to twitter/mlbtraderumors all night till I can't take it anymore, then wake up hoping the official word is released only to again stayed glued to twitter all freakin day. LOVE IT!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Cano will not sign with the BlueJays Rumoursss
daffy Verified Member Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 How long have you been a baseball fan for? Quite awhile now. I was just generally curious why it takes so long to get going as compared to the other major sports.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Cano will not sign with the BlueJays Rumoursss Shocking. So what Jays related rumors have you guys heard, other than Cano in Toronto?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Burke (think that was his name, the RP) he signed with the Rockies today
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Burke (think that was his name, the RP), Iannetta, Ramos, Beckham I'd take Ramos
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I'd take Ramos Yep AA inquired about him
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Ramos? Wasn't that this board? Nope, we were actually linked to him!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 He did? Starting pitching is still the team's top priority this offseason, but an upgrade at catcher has leapfrogged left field for the team's No. 2 priority, writes MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm in his latest Blue Jays Inbox. Chisolm notes that the free agent market will be expensive and competitive and adds that the Jays are interested in Wilson Ramos of the Nationals, though he would be an expensive trade target himself (in terms of prospects). Still, Chisolm writes that GM Alex Anthopoulos "seems determined" to make an upgrade behind the dish.
tercet Verified Member Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I heard a rumour that BTS will possibly stop being a selfish d-bag this upcoming season.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Here's the 'link' (from a Gregor Chisholm inbox): "Washington's Wilson Ramos is known to be of interest to the Blue Jays but would cost a lot through trade." That's it. I wouldn't call that a real rumour. Hmm. True. Truth is, AA will call over half the teams in baseball this month inquiring about catchers, second basemen and starting pitchers. Most of those calls will lead to nothing. Some of the players names he's calling about will be leaked anyway, generally by the other team. That's just how it goes.

Meh, it's credible enough that MLBTR reported it. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/10/blue-jays-notes-mottola-santos-catchers-gose.html Chisolm notes that the free agent market will be expensive and competitive and adds that the Jays are interested in Wilson Ramos of the Nationals, though he would be an expensive trade target himself (in terms of prospects). DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Catching, MIF depth and then the rotation IMO. There are enough arms to cover the +1460IP needed for a full season. Even if those innings are spread out over multiple sub-par pieces, there is at least bottom tier MLB talents to the fill the role already within the organization. The Jays' JPA/Goins(Izturtis) C/2B combo is trumped by quite a few AAA teams. It's embarrassing and needs to be rectified.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 If we don't upgrade at catcher there's no point doing anything else. Just write off the season.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 If we don't upgrade at catcher there's no point doing anything else. Just write off the season. This.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 If we don't upgrade at catcher there's no point doing anything else. Just write off the season. Yup. If catching isn't addressed then I suspect this team likely finishes in last again. It's so bad that a solid upgrade at catcher alone probably is the difference between last and not.

They actually kill two birds with one stone.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I heard the Jays were in on McCann at 3/45 with 2 club options for 15 each again, 1m buyout.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I heard the Jays were in on McCann at 3/45 with 2 club options for 15 each again, 1m buyout. I highly doubt he's coming here

I have a hard time believing JPA is back next year, especially when there are other options that can be had on short term deals.
