How would you know if you've never looked at advanced stats?

What makes you think i've never looked at advanced stats?

I can tell you one thing though, you have never viewed the game without advanced stats, so how would you know?

That's a pretty definitive statement. What makes you think this?

I think everybody has viewed the game without advanced stats, before they got into advanced stats.

I've been watching the Blue Jays for essentially as long as I've been alive and I got into the more advanced stats maybe a year ago now

I think it started with one of my friends trying to tell me Yunel Escobar didn't hustle enough to be an above average defender

Was my statement directed at yourself? This has nothing to do with you. Stop looking to get involved in some ******** argument.

Interesting that you avoid the question.

Maybe the fact that he's a teenager or in his early 20's and can't reflect on how it felt to view the game without all the saber stuff.

It's cute on how all you little dweebs flock together when you smell an argument.

Before you guys get out the heavy artillery, its a Saturday night and i'm in no mood to argue pathetically over nothing that is relevant.

Do something constructive on a Saturday night, would ya? Later..

My point is its not a slam dunk no brainer to take a 4.5 WAR player over a 3.8 WAR player. There more intangibles involved.

Stop f***ing speaking for other people as if you know every second of their entire life, it's really stupid.

For you, it's lame and overkill, for someone like JFaS (not to speak on his behalf) or I, it can be interesting and a unique take on things. To each their own, honestly.

I understand there's some guys who like digging right down to nitty gritty of the numbers to determine particular true player values. But when following baseball for as long as some have and having a good understanding, comparing Rasmus to his peers in CF isn't all that difficult using the numbers provided and being able to easily tag him as to what he is.

To each their own is true...and lame was an unnecessary term to use.

Fair enough, there's some merit to each side. And don't worry about it.

I think the nice part is that no matter how you look at it (except for Cards fans), Colby is damn good.

Agreed. Somehow the true magic of the game gets compromised when viewing the game solely on advanced stats. Shame really.

As Gordie said, to each their own. As for the magic....depends on the circumstance. If you're at an intriguing game.....WS, or no-hitter in progress and the fan is thinking about numbers and match-ups and all that s*** and oblivious to the magnitude of the game....then yeah, the magic is missed.

If they're a fan who solely gets immersed in numbers and everything is numbers and match-ups and precise rankings, that's their thing and there'll never be any magic.

I think its Jeff Sullivan from FG. He's made it known a couple times he's becoming less and less a fan of baseball due to the better understanding of the game and less of a fan whose heart is into the game.

Lots of hustle needed on the defensive side to play SS??????

As an adult and seeing how fans act behave who haven't delved into and have somewhat of an understanding of advanced stats, I don't think I'd wanna go back to being that.

I enjoy advanced stats....but not to the extent some do. But I also enjoy taking games in all over the place, not caring about advanced stats during the game and hoping to witness something cool.

I've always laughed at the comeback that people that follow advanced stats watch the game differently. Even the most saber fan won't look at a nice defensive and say "wow he made that play in UZR zone 56" they just see a nice play

When you witness some people only talk about advanced stats....you have to wonder.

Honestly, it does, to an extent. not so much as to what you outlined, but just one example, advanced stats has made me appreciate the strikeout more and pitching to contact less.
