Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 If it was Ricky Ro should be DFA'ed right away. I'm just going to blame it on JPA though. This is some how his fault. Hes probably bitter Colby came back and passed him in homeruns. f*** u #ArencibiaLine
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Oops, it was Gose after all!
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Yeah it was Gose. He really wants that CF job.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 My pick: RickyRo For those of us out this evening what happened??
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2013 Author Posted September 21, 2013 Gose taking advantage of their chance and he's trying steal the Rasmus work. WAR is WAR
Caper Verified Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Well... that about sums up the season.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 You had one f***ing job Anthony It was to not kill our 4 win outfielder And you f***ed that up You gotta get your s*** together man
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 There I FTFY Holy s*** I didn't even realize he'd been that good Maaaaaaaaaan is the Cards' board gonna be fun
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Gose threw a ball during warm up at Rasmus. Rasmus didn't see it and it hit him in the face and he left the game before the inning started. Dammit
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Have to be cautious of that BABIP though, it should be more like .315 (at least the best xBABIP formula thinks so). Well I don't think he's a true talent 4.6 win CF anyways and we probably shouldn't depend on that regardless. Is it possible to regress wOBA to a .315 BABIP and turn that into wRAA and sub that into his WAR to get a better idea of his true talent?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 You know how many hits you need to take away (or add) and the problem is just knowing what the wOBA weight of an average BABIP luck induced hit is. Through some math I approximated it to be 0.95. Yeah that's what I was wondering cause that s*** is way over my head. If you got me a regressed wOBA I could easily find his WAR though, wRAA is pretty easy to calculate

GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 oh f***.. didn't realize it was this bad. C'mon Colby, you're a tough dude.
Convo Verified Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Really hope Rasmus is okay. This is all rather unfortunate.

Convo Verified Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 It looked like he motioned to Gose to throw the ball, but this might of been right after he threw it and perhaps Rasmus' hat was hiding the ball from his FOV Also Rasmus is a tough SOB... he acted like it was nothing
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 With a .315 BABIP he should have a .338 wOBA and converting to WAR (and adjusting for park factor in wRAA) he would have 3.8 WAR. Awesome, that seems reasonable.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Is no news bad news or good news? I can just see that he has lost his vision in the eye and his career is over...that would be typical jays. Only thing that surprises me is we didn't sign him the day before for 5 years.

How about just watching him play and say to yourself "Colby is an above average center fielder with power and I'm glad he's with us". Enjoy.

Just because I don't enjoy baseball in the same way as you doesn't mean you get to tell me how to watch the sport I love, jackass, but after seeing what BS you've sprayed about Goins I'm just not going to bother
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 lol.......showing off your inner Spanky!!! I think we all have a little bit of Spanky in us.

I love stats myself but this advanced stuff in trying to assess a player's value is a little extreme.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 BTW, what BS have I spread about Goins? That he's an elite defender and has about a 10% chance in sticking?
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 No it isn't, advanced stats paint a better picture. My point is its not a slam dunk no brainer to take a 4.5 WAR player over a 3.8 WAR player. There more intangibles involved.

And even if you did care, regressing a bunch of different numbers to still come up with a non-definitive answer is lame.

For you, it's lame and overkill, for someone like JFaS (not to speak on his behalf) or I, it can be interesting and a unique take on things. To each their own, honestly.

Somehow the true magic of the game gets compromised when viewing the game solely on advanced stats. Shame really.
