We are proposing the term "Arencibia Line"

I have submitted a page to Wikipedia for review about the term - hopefully it gets accepted

We will also use the hashtag #ArencibiaLine in tweets to Zaun and Wilner and others to draw attention to it

Let me know if you have other ideas

Cheers

I didn't come up with the term, I don't think.

Way to raise awareness guys. This needs to be a thing!

I need to know who to credit in the Wikipedia article

I also need to know how to make a tinyurl to use in tweets

'''The Arencibia Line'''

The term "Arencibia (\ahr-ehn-SEE-bee-uh\) Line) refers to an extremely low on base percentage for a professional baseball player. (http://www.fangraphs.com/library/offense/obp/). On base percentage (OBP) is in an important measure of a hitter's performance, stating what proportion of plate appearances result in the player not getting out.

In 2013, Toronto Blue Jays catcher Jonathan Paul (J. P.) Arencibia had an extremely low on base percentage (0.236 at the time of this writing), at a level ranking in the lowest 0.001% in major league baseball history for players qualifying with enough plate appearances. The exact on base percentage for which the term "Arencibia Line" applies is debated, but is generally accepted to be in the vicinity of .250.

The term is inspired by another baseball statistical reference, the so-called [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mendoza_Line Mendoza Line], an infamous reference to a baseball player with a very low batting average

The term "Arencibia Line" is a new one, having been born on a popular Toronto Blue Jays message board, felt to have been first posted by a user nicknamed "GordieDougie"

A Twitter hashtag #ArencibiaLine has also been used, though at the time of this writing has not started trending significantly

Great thread, good going guys.

I want this line to end up just as infamous as the Mendoza Line. A standard expression used and accepted universally.

Will Arencibia be able to stay a major leaguer as long as Mendoza did, though?

Official origin of the term:

1. JugglingPitches suggests JP might "get the Mendoza line renamed after him"

2. GSnarls replies and says "this will be called the Arencibia Line"

3. Jays defines the Arencibia Line as an OBP of .250

"Arencibia" is a perfectly fine name. "Arencibia Line" doesn't really have a nice ring to it.

"Player X is 15 points below Arencibia".

Someone tweet Zaun with this. What better revenge for than helping JPA's name live on in infamy as the 'Arencibia Line'?

I hope it takes off better than Zaun's runs created formula.

I will be responsible for disseminating the message in Spanish. ---------------------> #LineaArencibia or #Arencibialine

I know a guy that is a high level editor on Wiki, it all works on levels there. I can possibly see what he can do. I mean there is a lot of trust in his job, so I'm not certain he can do it, but he's added numerous of my websites to wiki pages (as references for words). He does somethign like 1000+ edits per day, which is insane. So he can slip shady stuff in, here and there, as they dont go over his work with a fine toothed comb, anymore.
