G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Hopefully he's asked about JPA. Exactly what I'm hoping for McCown has been raging about Arencibia for the last hour, no way he doesn't bring it up
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 As much as I disliked J.P. Ricciardi, I liked how visible he was and how he'd have real stuff to say about the team when he was on the radio/TV
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 He's in Montreal promoting and planning the 2 spring training games there

Ricciardi, I liked how visible he was and how he'd have real stuff to say about the team when he was on the radio/TV I really do miss the Wednesday night Jays Talk with JP. He was a mediocre GM and preferred the American media but he treated the fans well.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 AA says he won't talk specific players because "they're out there still playing" but said it's obvious by looking at some people's stats that you'd look at making a change That had better mean Arencibia
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 I still think that JP with the same relative payroll we have now would have made the playoffs here. Absolutely. We probably would have signed Martin.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 JPA is "not without his flaws" but he won't lay any blame on him for the underperfoming starters
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Got too caught up "the offense, and, you know, stolen bases" and didn't get good infield defense Shot at Bonifacio
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Re second base - Thanks to Goins, 2B "may not be as much of a priority" McCown putting words in his mouth though...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Re Josh Johnson says needs more info on health after rehab before deciding if he is offered a contract
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Ahhh, that was useless\\Not a shocker

If Rogers gave him a new 5 year deal I would agree. At the end of his tenure he made some desperate moves to try and keep his job. On a long term term deal I think he could have grown the farm and rebuilt this club. That being said I'm happy he was fired and AA was brought in. I thought the organization needed a change of direction and AA really was great early in his tenure. AA is a young GM, his inexperience meant failure was inevitable. AA has failed in back-to-back off-seasons now but in very different ways. I'm hoping he learns from his experience and adapts appropriately. Hopefully we will see him shuffle the front office as well. Clearly the scouting army isn't working.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Didn't listen but has AA's balls dropped yet or does he still sound like Mickey Mouse?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 I don't think anything he said today was anything more than saying what the people want to hear, so I'm not too worried about Goins. I don't think AA seriously means that.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 JPA is our starting C. Eric Thames was our starting LF. And what do they have in common? All bat (lol) and no defense. Same with this team. All offense, no defense. I think AA values offense much more than defense, which gives me some mild hope in Goins not being our starting 2B.

Not quite true. He can still make a playoff team out of this, albeit one with a small (2 year) window. It will take a good trade, and an extra 20-25M in payroll for free agents to do it.

I really dont see how he's going to suddenly make smarter moves.

I don't think AA seriously means that. And I used to think JPA was being run out there during our non competitive years so he could build some trade value and be traded for a piece to help us when we started to compete. And then of course d'Arnaud would take over as the full time catcher. And then d'Arnaud was traded and JPA was kept as the starting catcher in a year where we pushed all our chips in.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 He realized he was wrong on Bonifacio He will realize he was wrong with JPA not sure he has realized the later yet... trading JPA would be the first sign to tell me AA is serious and that something other than his "gut feelings" was finally in control of the team.
flafson Verified Member Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Keep Goins, work on C and SP. Should be straight forward. Since Tampa Bay are kinda poor, how come we can't buy their scouts? They obviously know what they are doing when it comes to building talent.

They obviously know what they are doing when it comes to building talent. Or maybe it's that their front office doesn't dedicate all of their pro scouts to major league games for large swaths of the season. IE, they have a f***ing clue where and how scouts can help an organization.

Alex likes keeping guys years too long than getting rid of them a year early.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Absolutely. We probably would have signed Martin. With all the raving about not signing Martin. What was the reason the Yanks let him walk for essentially very little extra money?

The weird thing is when he was rapidly building the farm and making value additions to the team, it was all based around 'up the middle', defense-oriented athletic players. And then.....this rapid flip to full blown retard.
