Jays to play a few Spring games in Montreal

Not really important but might be worth discussing on an off day..

 

TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays are planning to play a pair of spring training games at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium against the New York Mets next spring, with an official announcement expected Tuesday.

 

 

 

The contests, to be held right at the end of the pre-season, will bring big-league baseball back to the Big O for the first time since the Expos left for Washington after the 2004 season.

 

Hosting games in Montreal makes sense under the Blue Jays’ strategy of building a country-wide fan-base.

 

The Blue Jays closed out their 2013 spring training with two contests in Philadelphia against the Phillies.

Now if we end up sharing a ST facility with Houston, I could go for a couple games being played in Texas where it's also nice and warm in March.

Apparently, Filipe Alou has leaked information that the available 1994 Expos players are going to do some sort of exhibition game that weekend, still in the planning stages.

Article suggesting tickets already on sale. Never heard this before???

 

The tickets have only been on sale for a few days but more than 40,000 total have already been sold for the games.

I'm also going to go ahead and presume that JP's absence from the promotional picture confirms that he will be off the roster by march.

Look at that picture. Jays might as well move to Santo Domingo. Less travel time for most of the good players.

Those three guys + Albert Pujols, David Ortiz and Robinson Cano probably = approx 60% of the GDP of the Dominican Republic. So would be good for the economy there too.

From an Alouettes article on Sportenet:

 

Alouettes chief operating officer Mark Weightman said the team opted for its outdoor field because of concerns a snowfall could postpone the match in the Big O. Olympic Stadium cannot be used if it snows due to an unstable roof.

 

Sooo.... What if it snows March 27/28???
