oakville69 Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Here is a post from Keith from last November. http://keitholbermann.mlblogs.com/2012/11/13/the-marlins-a-modest-proposal/ If the Rays moved to Montreal, can you imagine the Rogers Centre crowd during Expos -Jays games?? Any fans of Expos Nation here?
The_DH Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I'm sure the seven québécois fans would show up. It's not going to happen.
The_DH Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Why do they deserve a second chance? The old Expos fans left Montreal after the first referendum. And Vancouver blew its chances of getting any professional franchise.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 "Why do they deserve a second chance?" Well, every city in the modern era that has lost their only MLB baseball team eventually got one back: Milwaukee Kansas City Washington Seattle Permanently striking Montreal off the list would be the first time MLB ever did that. Unless you want to count Brooklyn as its own city, which I don't.
Buster Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Montreal isn't quite the city it once was.
The_DH Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Montreal isn't quite the city it once was. Exactly, the demographics changed drastically.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Building a new stadium in Montreal would probably take like 25 years now with all the corruption proceedings going on.

A new ballpark downtown, along the St. Lawrence and a winning ball club would be a recipe for success!
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 If a winning team is one of the necessary ingredients for success, you've got problems.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 If a winning team is one of the necessary ingredients for success, you've got problems. That's how the Montreal fans are. If a team is doing poorly, the fans won't support them -- it's always been like that. I'm sure for baseball even more.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 It would be nice, but no doubt a DT park would have to be built and I don't see the city the municipal or provincial govt forking up the funding, not that I would like them to fund it. It probably won't happen regardless as politicians here are too busy redistributing what little wealth is left.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 I think baseball will return to Montreal at some point in the future. The economy is in better shape now than in the 1990's. The Saputo family which is very wealthy owns the soccer team which is going to make the playoffs in the second season. I could see them trying to bring a team to Montreal. Unfortunately. Jeff Loria let the option on the vacant piece of land in downtown Montreal expire prior to selling the team to the MLB. I am sure they could find a piece of land to build somewhere in downtown Montreal. Expos Nation will rise again !
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
