Clojojo Verified Member Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I've been thinking this team might have caught a curse like the red sox did with Ruth. Or even the Cubs with the goat/bartman What has potentially caused this organization to be a totally inept hotbed of failure the last 20 years after winning the World Series. Some names like the Shea fallout, Rogers (aka Satan) buying the team Are we cursed?

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Worth it. Not if you're under 25.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Not if you're under 25. I'm under 25. Worth it.

Howard Roark Verified Member Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 We have existed as a team for, what, 46 years? Won 2 titles, for an average of one championship per 23 years. We've been lucky, looking at it from that perspective. If someone was really bored, they could calculate a nifty formula showing how many titles we could have expected to win during those 46 years, based on how many other teams existed during each of those seasons, assuming that each one had an equal chance of winning it each season. I am not that bored.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 It's not worth it when you didn't even get to experience it.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 46 years? Do you even math bro? (Hint: Jays first game was April 7, 1977...) 37. lol Was/am stoned. ;-) edit: makes my original argument about us having won more WS than we could expect even moreso. We really have no right to complain.

We really have no right to complain. Marlins are at an even better ratio...doesn't mean they have the better run franchise though or that those people in Miami don't have the right to complain. D-Bags have a better average too, but for every year they don't win #2, the Jays come ever closer to passing them again
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 There's no such thing as a curse in sports. Supposedly "cursed" teams all have three things in common: players/coaches who are incompetent or inconsistent, bad management, ownership that isn't committed to winning. "Curses" are what marketing departments come up with to deflect all blame from the franchise and what fans use to console themselves after bad losses or periods of mediocrity.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 just because it was started by an idiot it doesn't automatically mean it should be deleted. Jays have a curse...COTF!
Dr Negative Verified Member Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 We should call it the curse of John Olerud considering the circumstances of his departure and the team's consistent refusal over the years to value players like him.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
