Machado honestly isn't much better than Lawrie. People got way too excited about a hot start and some fluky doubles.

 

Easy for lawrie to play well when the pressures off and the Jays are out of it. Lets see how he does when they are competing for a playoff spot which will probably be a long time away with this sad sack team

Such a great move by Friedman. Yunel is going to put up about 4 WAR while earning $5 million, for like $30 million in surplus value. And they still have him for two more years at that rate. We're talking about a likely $50-100 million asset that just fell into their hands because he wrote a bad word on his face one time.

ZiPS likes Lawrie for the rest-of-the-season by a fair amount.

 

Lawrie: .270/.326/.455 (113 wRC+)

Machado: .269/.314/.431 (102 wRC+)

 

Machado is a stud for his defense at SS and his above average offensive as a SS.... In 3B his value isn't the same.

I don't doubt that Lawrie can be more productive offensively than Machado but...... the damn defensive spectrum, SS > 3B

Very true. It's ironic that a fan captured the maricon note on Yunel's eye patch. The picture went viral. The Jays were forced to suspend Yunel . Media went crazy. Yunel gets traded for peanuts in the offseason. I blame the Jays coaching staff & latino players in the clubhouse who didn't tell him to take the patch off. I doubt Maddon would let him wear a Maricon patch

I don't disagree with you, but writing maricon on his eye patch wouldn't have caused the same uproar in TB that it did in Toronto imo. To me this is another example that some of the moves this organization makes aren't baseball decisions, but based on marketing or other considerations and they are made not by the baseball people, but by others higher up.

The maricon incident made the Jays look like an anti gay organization. That's unacceptable & AA had to dump Escobar. Mccown was demanding that escobar be suspended for the rest of the season. The problem is that AA signs Omar Visquel to be a mentor to the Latino & other players. He doesn't do his job & Escobar is allowed to wear anti gay eye patches. Fail on both counts. Furthermore, Gregg Zaun aid that non latino players knew what the word Maricon meant, so anyone could have warned Escobar not to wear that eye patch.

 

AA got screwed because he had to give up a player he got at a discount from Atlanta, & dump him at a fire sale price to the Marlins.

That's another example of strange moves by AA. AA tells the media that Bonifacio is a hidden gem with multiple tools, yet he dump him after 100 games. Why did Bonifacio regress with the Jays? It wasn't injury related.

 

Look at Aaron Hill's career since he left the Jays.

the bigger problem with Cito is that AA wasn't given a chance o start fresh in 2010 with his own manager.

 

Ironically, AA's best record as a GM is with Cito & JP Riccardi roster in 2010.
