GNick Verified Member Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) Alex Anthopoulos was on FAN590 Prime Time Sports tonight. A few of his comments: - Cabrera going for MRI, suspect but not confirmed yet torn meniscus. - Asked about Cabrera on waivers, said at times all 25 players will be on waivers. Injured players cannot be on waivers. So Cabrera cannot be on waivers as he is on DL. - Elliott quoted a Bill Walsh book....referring to Jays 2013 season.....saying path of success, road to victory goes thru failure. - When Riccardi was GM, AA pushed hard for Glaus/Rolen trade. Looked bad early on as Glaus had good first year, Rolen was banged up. Following year it turned around. Year Rolen was banged up led to Bautista trade. - Core pieces are staying in place for next year. - Josh Johnson will not be shutdown, at least not immediately. Will continue to work with him thru this. - 100% false rumours that were in media at trade deadline. Wouldn't mention names but said he gets asked about best players all the time. Believes in this core. Not trading his top players for prospects. - He was working on 2 things at deadline, but it never got leaked. Hard to make trades in July involving other teams best players. - Rasmus free agent at end of next year, may wait a little bit before extending him. Compared him to the Encarnacion extension in mid-season of his free agent year. - No question about future of John Gibbons future. Edited August 2, 2013 by GNick

GNick Verified Member Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 What does that even mean? His job is solid....this year not Gibby's fault.

So, is he saying, despite being in a "win now" mode, and earlier this year when he said he kind of "had to make" the Dickey trade to go for it, the trades made might not look good now but give them time? Kind of self defeating isn't it? And oh that trade lead to having yet another injured player, so we had to make a trade for depth, and a few years after Bautista became what he is now? Doesn't that also kind of say wait a season or two or three and if someone gets hurt, we'll have to make another trade and hope we get something decent after more time? I could just be reading too far into it after this season went to hell in a hand basket so early on.

Why he bought up the Glaus trade was to compare to Miami and Dickey trades. Rolen/Glaus trade looked terrible the first year. Glaus had good year for Cardinals while Rolen was so-so and often injured. But Rolen bounced back the next year and Glaus was virtually done, trade worked out for team in long run. The first year Rolen was here there was a silver lining because that is why they went after Bautista for depth. He never mentioned, I don't know why as it is a good point, Rolen also bought us Encarnacion.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 What does that even mean? He pretty much said, without actually saying it "Gibby isn't the problem. The pitching staff, and especially Josh Johnson, are the problem"
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Zaun made some points too on radio Wants Bautista to complain less and lead more Says Morrow too fragile, Hutch needs another season in the minors Upset no trades of Oliver and JJ. Thinks Buerhle not worth 18M and Johnson not worth 14M. Tim asks him who he'll replace them with. No real answer. Likes the way Rangers develop pitchers and says the Jays "baby" their arms in the minors Says the Jays don't play "winning" baseball. Says the thing they're best at is slapping each other in the dugout after home runs. LOL. http://www.sportsnet.ca/590/on-demand/

Howard Roark Verified Member Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 If I was on this team I'd be the most hated guy in the dugout, bar none. Why? Because I'd not be able to restrain myself from losing my f***ing s*** every time these clowns did one of their juvenile customized "handshakes" or dances or lovistes because someone just hit a double to get us back within 5 runs in a game where we're sitting last in the division with a losing record. f***ing assclowns, I've seen middle-schoolers conduct themselves with more grace and tact. So unbelievably immature and unlikeable, like no other Jays team I've ever seen.

Pinkfloid Verified Member Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 yup, arrogance is more easily overlooked if the team is actually performing.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 They really are unlikeable and it's not just because they're pretty bad at baseball. Just to be clear, even if they were in first place that kind of immature s*** would be annoying, these are grown men acting like tryhard teenagers for f***s' sake, but when you're in last place it's absolutelyunf***ingforgiveable. These juvenile twats seem to have NO f***ING IDEA how ridiculous they look carrying on like this. Mind-boggling lack of class and self-awareness.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Based on what exactly? Based on his status as a Beeston/AA crony.
GNick Verified Member Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Gibby might not be the main problem. But he is certainly no kind of solution either. I agree with you on Gibby. Anthopoulos wouldn't known a good manager! Look at difference Showalter made in Baltimore or Farrell in Boston? Gibby is wrong fit here
