FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I hope we don't stay the course for the next two seasons, unless we're going to go ALL "all in" and jack payroll into the stratosphere to get Choo and Cano and Garza this offseason. .....which would work out about as well as the Angels adding Hamilton. God, this front office is a joke.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Nobody is taking Melky off our hands. There is no point getting our hopes up about that.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I really don't get the Melky hate. The guy has been bad this year, but he's been injured and is coming off a few pretty solid years. If we're not getting a legit return, I'd just roll the dice on him returning to form next year. and the steroid angle is dumb if anyone wants to throw that out as rebuttal. Nobody knows if that is affecting his production this year, and NOBODY can quantify how much.

GNick Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 There are plenty of great players on this team, it's about finding quality players to fill the holes. Finding ~2.0 WAR guys to play catcher, second and LF shouldn't be all that difficult, yet it would improve the team immensely. Kawasaki would give team a 2.0 WAR at 2b.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Since Bono would probably net us next to nothing...I would prefer to hold onto him and use him as a 4th OF and late game pinch runner since i doubt Davis will be back. Reyes can't play ss and ss > 2b....Right?
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Texas would take that in a nanosecond IMO. Andrus' contract prevents him from earning much surplus value, whereas Bautista is a bargain at his deal. It's very hard to find impact bats these days and Bautista is one. We'd have to get Profar. It really depends on how Jose ages. Elvis Andrus is also only 25 and could theoretical still get better.

Bautista for Andrus and Pérez isn't a good trade for us. Profar is a better better opcion than Andrus (surplus value).
Nox Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 It really depends on how Jose ages. Elvis Andrus is also only 25 and could theoretical still get better. Normally I would agree with you but Andrus is essentially an all glove asset and that tends to peak a bit sooner. In order for him to get better as an overall package, his bat needs to improve. Personally I'm skeptical of that happening. I'd pencil him in as a true talent 2 WARish guy going forward. Not a tonne of surplus, but still a minor asset.
Nox Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Also, people need to stop considering Martin Perez a legit prospect. He's nothing more than back of the rotation filler.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Boni+Cecil+Stilson to ATL for Bethancourt please. Too bad they already got Downs. I saw Bethancourt last winter, he can't hit, strong ARM but raw guy.

Not a tonne of surplus, but still a minor asset. I can see him growing in to a little more power but that's about it. I agree that he's probably a finished product. With his athleticism and base-running ability he should have a fairly long peak. Perhaps I over-valued Perez. TBH I didn't look at his stats before hand, I thought he was having a much better year. What would be your take on something like Ogando + Andrus + Alfaro for Bautista. Is that closer to a win for T.O?

Ya, I'm going to have to admit on that one I may have screwed the pooch. I thought Perez was having a good year and remembered him being a decent prospect. I don't really think Andrus + a fringe 5 is fair value for Jose.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Also, people need to stop considering Martin Perez a legit prospect. He's nothing more than back of the rotation filler. He's the Sean Nolin ceiling.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Bautista for Andrus and Martin Perez would be a great trade. Not sure if Jose still has that kind of value though. I would certainly be asking for more than that.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Boni+Cecil+Stilson to ATL for Bethancourt please. Too bad they already got Downs. I think they'd just take Cecil and Boni, dunno if Stilson is necessary. I really like Bethancourt as a target, though.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Cards traded Rzep to Indians He wasn't a true Card
Nox Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 What would be your take on something like Ogando + Andrus + Alfaro for Bautista. Is that closer to a win for T.O? If you're going to trade Bautista, you're probably rebuilding. Trading for a 30 year old pitcher doesn't really fit well there. Andrus, as discussed, doesn't have a tonne of surplus. Alfaro is intriguing but I think there are far better packages out there if we're really considering a Bautista trade. A 4.5 WAR true talent hitter (declining or not) with the control/contract he comes with is a very, very valuable asset.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Since we're doing hypothetical trade impossibilities... Sierra + Nolin + Pillar + Dickey + JJ + Gose for Mike Trout

Trying to come up with a Robbie Alomar - McGriff type deal that helps the team win now. Harder than it looks though! haha
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I would do Profar and Perez for Bautista. But not Andrus and Perez f*** that. Perez is a little better then people in this thread are saying he is. But hes not a top of the rotation starter. Hes got a pretty good chance to be a nice 3 or 4. He would instantly become one of our better starting options. Would be nice to add a quality lefty with good stuff that can start. If Bautista is going to Texas the target has to be Profar. Maybe there is a package of other talent, even a three team trade, out there.
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 The Rasmus trade was really bad for them. But since they won a world series nobody cares. They also got 2 supplement first rounders.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I wonder if a smaller trade with Texas would make sense that would net us just Ogando? Too bad MLB is waiting until after the deadline to announce suspensions.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Looks like Boni is getting the start tonight in LF. Maybe some team wants a look at him?
