So I have checked out the Marlins roster, and my oh my, they actually have a really nice core in only one year of rebuilding.... I think it's so far so good, what do you guys think?

C - Rob Brantly, 24 yrs (Scouting Report: Should be good defender, contact hitter, good eye, Acquired as part of a package for Anibal Sanchez & Omar Infante)

1B - Logan Morrison, 25 yrs

2B - Derek Dietrich, 24 yrs (Power hitting 2B, lefty Dan Uggla? Plus power, meh glove. Acquired in 1 for 1 swap of Yunel Escobar with the Rays)

3B - Colin Moran, 20 yrs (Just drafted, great hit tool, gap power, decent defender)

SS - Adeiny Hechavarria, 24 yrs (Great defender, range glove and arm. Should be a decent hitter, Yunel with the bat ceiling? Acquired from Jays in Blockbuster)

LF - Christian Yelich, 21 yrs (Drafted by Marlins, great bat tool, can hit over .300, power potential is growing and is a threat with the bat)

CF - Jake Marisnick, 22 yrs (Handsome and a great athelete, perfect CF defensivly, offence still needs work, but potential to be plus contact & power, acquired from Jays)

RF/CF - Marcell Ozuna, 23 yrs (Amateur FA signing in 2008, typical RF; great arm + great power + meh hit tool, .260 ish hitter, decent speed)

RF - Giancarlo Stanton, 23 yrs

SP - Jose Fernandez, 20 yrs (Goes from A+ to MLB All-Star the following year, wow)

SP - Nathan Eovaldi, 23 yrs (Acquired as main piece from Hanley Ramirez trade)

SP - Henderson Alvarez, 23 yrs (Acquired from Jays)

SP - Justin Turner, 22 yrs (Acquired from Tigers with Brantly for Infante & Sanchez)

SP - Andrew Heaney, 22 yrs (Drafted by Marlins, still in A ball, could be solid #3, Fastball + Changeup + Curveball with good control and velo, working on a cutter)

SP - Justin Nicolino, 22 yrs (Started AA, smart pitcher, can work all corners with plus command & movement, great fastball, changeup already an out pitch, still working on curve. Acquired from Blue Jays)

I think those are the real core players. Obviously there are other great young talent, especially in the BP (Steve Cishek, Dan Jennings, Ryan Webb; all young and should be good), but as the main core going forward, they have a great future ahead of them.

It's alright, it's not a team that is going to get the non baseball fans to come out and watch. If everyone played to their ceiling it would be amazing but there is still not that much depth (other than the OF and maybe SP) to handle the high number of failures they will have. They will do good to lock up Fernandez through his arbitration plus a couple of years, maybe the same with Yelich. Trading Stanton in the next year is a given...that should improve the depth. Would I love rather have the Jays team to work with or the Marlins...well Marlins but will the Marlins win more games than the Jays before 2016, probably not.

It will be good until they blow it up again. Marlins model = trick multiple FA to sign multi year deals and then trade them all after 1 season. Rinse and repeat.

He's not 20 lol

Don't you ever speak ill of Jose Fernandez again. He swam from Havana to Miami with his mother on his back while punching sharks to death and drinking sea water.

True, but I am saying through only one year of rebuild. Most of these core players were acquired in trades during the deadline and the offseason. I think that, in 2014 August they're obviously going to have an even better farm and more depth.

But given that it's only being a year of rebuild, I think they have done really well.

Kidding aside, you could make a very strong case that Jose Fernandez is one of the 10 best starters in baseball going forward. He is scary good.

Well what they have to do is complete rebuild and get Loria out lol

Proper ownership maybe this time around?

Most of the high-end talent was acquired prior to the tear-down.

Damn, he could be part of Sharknado 2.

What is baffling me, even past the age, how does he go from dominating A ball to dominating MLB? When was the last time someone goes from A+ to being top 20 NL starter (according to Fangraphs) and MLB All-Star? Holy crap lol

Players before teardown:

1B - Logan Morrison

LF - Christian Yelich

RF/CF - Marcell Ozuna

RF - Giancarlo Stanton

SP - Jose Fernandez

SP - Andrew Heaney

After:

C - Rob Brantly

2B - Derek Dietrich

3B - Colin Moran

SS - Adeiny Hechavarria

CF - Jake Marisnick

SP - Nathan Eovaldi

SP - Henderson Alvarez

SP - Justin Turner

SP - Justin Nicolino

True but seems like they had a lot of depth acquired through trade, solid players, especially on the pitching front

Fernandez f*** the Rockies at Coors field. He pitched as if he was in Petco Park.

Great stuff and fastball command will play at any level.

Miami's doing as good at job (better?) rebuilding than Houston or the Cubs, who get all the fanfare from the internet community. People just hate Loria so they don't want to admit it. By 2015 or 2016 Miami will be contending for the NL pennant.

I don't like Houston's prospects and future core as much as the Marlins, and the Astros have been rebuilding for longer.

2015 or 2016? Woah lol, I think they'll be 2010/11 Jays caliber by 2015, they still need to polish a lot of their players and need more impact ones too. Attracting FA is much harder now

Overall I like the Marlin's position players going forward (assuming a few of the key ones don't bomb). Aside from obviously Fernandez, I don't think much of their pitching longer term. Time may prove me wrong.

Carlos Correa > Marlins (No Stanton, Fernandez)

Colorado or Boston should probably trade for Stanton. He's probably a true talent 40+ HR guy if he played in either place.

I agree with you. If they get 1st overall pick they might be able to change that. Also if Stanton is traded, he'd surly net in 2x his value in both pitching prospect(s) and hitting prospect(s).

That's only one player. I like the fact that the Marlins get to build around 23 yo Stanton (who is >>>>>>>>>>> Astros) and 20 yo Fernandez (who is >>>>>>>>>>>> Astros). Plus the supporting young crew beats out what the Astros are spitting out IMO

Miami already has an ace, a cleanup hitter, and many of their top prospects in the big leagues. If Yelich and Marisnick pan out they should be ready by 2015.

What about pitching? They'd be the Rockies in the NL, elite offence, s*** pitching.

If he somehow becomes a Rockies player, he's a 60 homer threat. Holy crap he has like 5 homers in 8 games at Coores Field and all of them have been moonshots

I read somewhere the other day that the average distance on his homeruns in Coors is ~460 ft. That's just silly

(I'm too lazy to look them all up on hittracker to verify)

WHAT IS THIS SITE??? HOW DID I NOT KNOW OF THIS?!

This is so badass!!! Thank you for dropping that note lol, it's so cool! Trout and Rizzo have the longest homers this year? And EE has the most no doubters at 10!

Anyways, he has 8 homers in 10 games, the longest one was last year off Josh Renokie that went a total of 494 ft. http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=23980563&c_id=mlb

Those 8 homers have a total distance of 3215 ft, averaging to ~402 ft on average lol

However the 4 homers for 2012 on, he averaged an average ~461 ft

But the Rockies have a s***** offense and good pitching.

Rockies rank in hitter fWAR: 20

Rockies rank in pitcher fWAR: 4

Miami has a whole bunch of pitching prospects/young pitchers who are interesting, I think it'll come together.

Wow they turned it around? Last year and the years before it was all offence no pitching, I swear

Loria as their owner = not a success. Simple as that.

With the way both Orgs are going, I'd rather be a Marlins fan with hope that Loria is pressured to sell the team than be a Jays fan who's management is just throwing prospects at s*** people to plug holes.

But I am a true Jays fan so I have to keep rooting for my team, but I don't like where this is going

2012 they were 22nd in pitching and 25th in hitting.

2011 they were 12th in pitching and 22nd in hitting.

2010 they were 1st (!!!) in pitching and 22nd in hitting.

The Rockies have recently been very good at pitching and poor at hitting. You pay way too much attention to an-adjusted numbers.

I stand corrected

What the hell lol I thought they always had s*** pitching
