fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Major League Baseball is expected to suspend as many as 20 players, including Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez, after the the All-Star break according to ESPN's Outside The Lines. The suspension would come on the heels of MLB's investigation into Tony Bosch and the Biogenesis clinic in Miami. During a meeting on June 29th, Braun refused to answer any questions regarding the allegations of performance enhancing drug use. League officials are expected to meet with Rodriguez next week. Via reporters T.J Quinn and Mike Fish: "Sources said the commissioner's office was considering 100-game bans for Braun and Rodriguez, the punishment for a second offense, even though neither player was previously suspended for violating MLB's drug policy. The argument, one source said, would be that they -- and possibly other players -- committed multiple offenses by receiving performance-enhancing drugs from Bosch and by lying about it." According to Quinn and Fish, Bosch's lawyers have been in constant contact with league officials over the past month. Source: http://thesco.re/12WHgmY
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I like this. The only way I'd be sad about this is if a Jay (other than Melky) was on the list (though, the leaked names thus far have not included any) or if Miguel Cabrera was on the list, because I really hope he's clean. Amazing that all of these people were dumb enough to use the same "doctor" for their cheating stuff... That's the height of dumb.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Yikes. This is good though, good for the game IMO. I don't care if Melky gets suspended, the guy is cannon fodder anyway.

I actually kinda hope there's a clause in his contract that allows AA to void it if he gets suspended. I've been generally underwhelmed with him for most of the year.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I can't see how it's good for the game. Good for the game is Braun playing baseball, rather than being suspended without concrete proof (in the media and fan's eyes).
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 No way it happens. How can this hold up on appeal? They passed all their mlb tests. No way an arbitrator can uphold suspensions. MLB can try but it will fail and just create tons of bad press through the postseason. Would be super dumb
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Why would Melky be receiving another 50 though? Didn't he already get caught, and serve the penalty last season?
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I just hope the appeal last long enough to keep Braun playing into September (got him on my fantasy team)
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 melky honestly hasn't been that bad outside of his horrendous base running and fielding. hopefully when healthy this won't be an issue because his bat has been decent -nothing mind blowing but definitely not that bad

digiblader Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 ESPN's stupid: Tom @Haudricourt MLB spokesman tells me ESPN report on Braun is premature and no decisions have been made. Updated blog at http://bit.ly/cGDWps
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 who are the suspects in this unnamed 'high profile player'? Cano, Bautista, Miggy, Pujols, Stanton?

digiblader Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 It's got to be Cano. Can has been accused previously of PEDs..
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Why would Melky be receiving another 50 though? Didn't he already get caught, and serve the penalty last season? Lying about his usage is what would lead to another suspension.

Caper Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I kind of like the idea of Melky getting suspended. Would love to see Pillar get the call upo and run with the job.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 high profile player - Bautista? If they suspend the 20 people and none of them were Bautista, can people stop f***ing pointing fingers at him everytime the word 'PED' is thrown? The dude has been accused of this since 2010 yet he hasn't been suspended or name dropped by the MLB or Pundits
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 timing is so MLB isn't it after the All Star game.... otherwise half the players at the game would be replaced with next echelon players, no?
admin Site Manager Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Or Pillar get the call up and we find out he's a AAAA player Or we found it it is Pillar!
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 Chris Davis anybody Nah, like EE the dude has a lot of power and showed it in spurts. Finally put s*** together (and with the help of a .350> BABIP)
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I kind of like the idea of Melky getting suspended. Would love to see Pillar get the call upo and run with the job. Can we please not make the 40 man roster any messier than it is?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 PEDless Melky = sucks Melky's been playing hurt all year...this has more to do with his performance than lack of peds
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 And AA considered promoting Pillar to MLB to replace Melky while he is on the DL, but they decided it wouldn't be good for his development to call him up for 2 weeks. So get ready, he'll be here soon We already have to make room on the 40 man for Perez, Hutchinson and Happ at some point in the not too distant future. We added Nolin so he could make one start and be sent back down (That still bothers me...). We've got 6 OFs on the 40 man, 7 if you count Bonifacio, which for some reason apparently some people do... I dunno, I just think adding another guy so he can get a cup of coffee is needlessly handcuffing the team.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Why have Sierra and Gomez sat on the 40 man all year if we have no intention of using them? All those important AB's in September I guess.

He'll need to be added by October anyway.

Big difference both will be out of options after this season and will essentially be FA's if they don't make the big club by next year (which neither should or will). Pillar can remain on the 40 (and will).
