G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Attendance, on average, is down across major league baseball. But we are one of a few teams seeing continual increases. The most recent data I can find online shows an average of 31,417 fans per game at Rogers Centre, and a total of 1,445,173 fans so far this season. That ranks, I believe, 6th in the AL and 14th in all of baseball http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=mlb/teams/040/attendance.aspx?team=040 Hope it keeps up, and I hope the team gets in to the thick of things in the second half to help maintain it.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 Some relative numbers from 2012 to 2013: Jays are up 4,790 per game compared to last year (an 18% increase) Of course, it's easier to go up when you had a few years of dismal attendance, but still nice to see Miami is down the most (not surprising), but Phillies are way down too. Only the Jays, Orioles and Nationals are up a significant amount compared to last year What's the Hell is wrong with Pittburgh fans?!?!?! They're not up at all compared to 2012. In fact, they're down slightly, 22nd rank in attendance, despite having the 2nd best record in baseball. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/current_attendance.shtml
digiblader Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Blame the drops across MLB on: -Bad US economy -Declines in the Yankees and Phillies--see the numbers: Yankees 39722 (-4,011) Phillies (-5,231) Red Sox 33,954 (-3,614) -Miami.
digiblader Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 And boy are the Rays fans apathetic--they're down 3,069 from last year, despite being in contention. Texas is way down too, most likely due to no Josh Hamilton and a huge lack of stars. Stupid ESPN/TMZ generation.. they'd rather see stars then a fundamentally strong team.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 Darvish, Kinsler, Cruz and Beltre are stars. Texas is fifth in baseball in attendance and were third last year. They're only down a couple thousand per game, which could be due to any number of factors. Yeah It's Philadelphia and Tampa who should be worrying I think (Well and maybe Miami but they don't have to sell any tickets to make money with their payroll hahahaha)
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Are you comparing mid-season data this year with end of year data last year for attendance? Most teams probably draw better during the summer.

Most teams probably draw better during the summer. Which should be a big factor to help maintain the Jays attendance figures over the next 8 weeks or so.

Comparing apples to apples (first half of 2012 vs first half of 2013) the amount of increase is the same: First half 2012: 1,224,816 total, 26,626 per game First half 2013: 1,445,173 total, 31,417 per game + 4791 fans per game Source: http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=mlb/teams/040/attendance.aspx?team=040
