SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 raps have more talent than the heat? really? broken kyle lowry vs goran dragic (I DUNNO, PROBABLY DRAGIC BUT ONLY CUZ LOWRYS HURTING) dwyane wade vs demar derozan (WADE EASILY) joe johnson vs broken-ish demarre carroll (PUSH) luol deng vs patrick patterson (DENG IS BETTER) hassan whiteside vs jonas valanciunas (WHITESIDE IS BETTER) MIA Bench of Richardson, Winslow, Stoudemire, & McRoberts vs TOR Bench of Joseph, Biyombo, Powell, & Ross (OUR BENCH KILLS THEM) Even if Lowry was healthy and Carroll was consistent I still think it would be a push talent-wise at absolute best. I'd argue that Carroll is an advantage over joe johnson and Patterson and Deng will be a push.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Series will come down to, can we get Whiteside into foul trouble?
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 A healthy Raptors team vs a healthy Heat team would have been a pretty good series. We might have a chance if Powell plays 30 minutes a game. Highly doubt it though. Demar's earned his chance to take 30 shots a game
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Funny thing with seeing Bautista there yesterday is that he's a huge Heat fan. Wonder if he'll wear a Heat hat at the game if he goes lol

crazy47larry Verified Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I'd argue that Carroll is an advantage over joe johnson and Patterson and Deng will be a push. Carroll's been inconsistent so its tough. The real problem is whoever Carroll/Powell is not covering is going to run rampant over DeRozan and Coach Casey never really plays Carroll + Powell together. Dengs head and shoulders better than PatPat. Dengs also absolutely killing it in the playoffs so far. No contest there really.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Guys I put 20$ on the Heat beating the Raps. Did I make a good bet?
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 How is Deng head and shoulders over Patterson? Patterson had a better ORTG, DRTG, virtually identical shooting %s, only thing Deng has on him is usage rate. I'll give you that, he's a higher usage player; however, Patterson over the course of the season + playoffs has been a bigger impact player easily.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Guys I put 20$ on the Heat beating the Raps. Did I make a good bet? It will be close, likely a 7 game series...cross your fingers and your toes lol

I started with the eye test though honestly. I just know Deng is a better NBA player than Patterson is all.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Patterson was s*** in the regular season and Deng was useful. That's all that should really be looked at. Deng > Patterson but it won't be an important factor I don't think

Saying you just know he is better, doesn't in fact make him better. Patterson was easily better throughout the whole regular season, that trumps 7 games where Deng played over his true talent level.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 patterson doesn't put up great boxscore stats but his impact has been tremendous this season on both ends. I'd take him over Deng imo.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Patterson could actually be a productive offensive player with an actual system put in place. Casey needs him to just stand out on the arc to create space for DeRozan to bounce the ball off his foot though. He's solid but his usage is so low and barely takes any shots

Deng even had a higher ORtg and lower DRtg in both the regular season and playoffs. using advanced stats Deng is better in literally every single metric. and watching and knowing basketball he is also better in every scouting and eye test. game, set, match?

He's solid but his usage is so low and barely takes any shots thing is even when he is floating around the 3pt line all game he passes up a lot of those open 3 pointers. it vexes me greatly. its really the only thing that annoys me about him because he is a solid all around player (just not as solid as luol deng *derp*). i just hope we dont need him to defend joe johnson again lol. what a clusterf*** he gave us that year.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 He could take more, though he seems really keen on taking rhythm shots and not forcing anything. That's all the more reason though to keep him more involved with the offense. He swings the ball pretty effectively and doesn't hold onto the ball killing the shot clock like a lot of our other players. Overall he's just a solid option to have surrounding ideally your star players, though we have just the 1 and he's hurt. Cojo/Lowry/Powell/Patterson/JV(or Bismack) can actually compete with the Heat.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 I didn't realize how fire JV's advanced stats were until today
TRM Verified Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 I didn't realize how fire JV's advanced stats were until today He's an advanced stat darling

SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 oye. i figured you'd make me go there. okay here goes REGULAR SEASON STATS Luol Deng PER = 15.0 Patrick Patterson PER = 10.6 Luol Deng TS% = .549 Patrick Patterson TS% = .534 Luol Deng WS = 6.4 Patrick Patterson WS = 3.6 Luol Deng WS/48 = .128 patrick Patterson WS/48 = .086 Luol Deng BPM = 1.9 Patrick Patterson BPM = 1.0 Luol Deng VORP = 2.3 Patrick Patterson VORP = 1.5 Deng also has a lower TO% and higher USG%. Fair enough, I did not look that deep on the advanced stats as NBA.com doesn't show those ones (or at least I can't find them). I saw the shooting stats were quite comparable as well as AST% REB% while Patterson was a 109-100 and Deng 104-102. On another note, anyone have predictions for tonight final score?
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 We got this. For all the s*** we give DeRozan, he pretty much played worse than anyone could imagine and we still beat a team with a player better than anyone on Miami
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Predictions? I can't go against us just yet so I'll go with the bare minimum and say Raptors in 7 while praying Lowry isn't dead (And Derozan is?)
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 heat is the better team unless Lowry finds his shot.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 I like what Casey has done here. Powell in for Patterson. Powell on Wade and Carroll on Johnson, I think Demar can reasonably guard Deng.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 young Wade vs old Wade best fans in the league btw
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Saw you could get tickets for $60 on stubhub earlier today for the game.
