He did what he had to do. He can't control the refs.

Agreed. Demar did everything right there, didn't force a bad long two or contested jumper. Got a step on two defenders, Butler just made an incredible play swiping the ball clean.

Anyone who says Demar did something poorly there, I just don't even know what to say

Big respect to Jimmy because he's an amazing defender, but I think there was enough contact there to call a foul, but for some reason the whistle inexplicably goes silent on end of game possessions for the Raptors.

You don't get those calls at the end of games. This has been evident watching the NBA at any point. Dribbling into traffic with your head down at the end of game is not a viable strategy.

into traffic? he turned the corner on them at the 3 point line and Butler was trailing the play and swiped the ball. I dont think there should have been a call there but I liked the play overall considering we had 5 seconds to go end to end and get a score

Is it in the rulebook that a player can't get a call while driving with less than 5 seconds left?

I fail to see how you're doing anything but defending DD's action rather than taking a long contested 2/3 with one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA right on him.

What were you just saying about the quality of refereeing tonight before you proceeded to argue that it was a good idea to put the game in the referees' hands?

Alright, so what should DeRozan have done different?

Also, no one said anything about putting the game in the refs' hands, I'm sure DD was hoping to get a layup or a dunk but would have appreciated a call going his way after his defender was bumping and slapping him.

Honestly would've rathered he'd deferred.

I think it's somewhat safe to assume Demar was expecting a call there considering his play style.

complaining about fouls in the nba is like complaining about balls and strikes in baseball. Anyways, does anyone have a replay? It seemed to me like Derozan pushed off.

I'm looking for a replay and can't find one. I can't say I saw a push off, but I'd really like to rewatch for several reasons now including that I guess.

But a push off at that point would've been just as soft/softer than a shooting foul there imo

I don't really see an opportunity to defer there. He makes a cross court pass to Lowry that maybe gets picked off but if not, best case scenario Lowry heaves a 28 foot contested 3. Is that better than a drive to the rim where he has a step?

I think there was someone open above the foul line extended. Only one step considering Demar's speed isn't that big an advantage. Wouldn't have been surprised had he gotten pinned right there.

demar vs butler at the end of the game was a losing battle before it started.

This is essentially what it boils down to for me

f*** you could remove the "at the end of the game" part and it's still true as evidenced by like every game vs CHI in recent memory

DeRozan hit half with like 4 seconds left. There was never any pass available. All he could really do was charge to bucket. Valiant effort; good defense; call didn't go Toronto's way but honestly it would have been a lame foul. I don't like the argument that past s***** calls means the refs should make future s***** calls to balance things out. Meh.

Was Patterson who I thought I saw open. No way Demar would've ever seen that. Really should've had Lowry bring it up. Definitely no foul, and with Jimmy Butler there that's probably going to miss most of the time, especially with Taj converging and pressure coming on the other side.

I would normally agree with this but not tonight. Demar outplayed Jimmy despite that last play, easy to forget Jimmy bricked 1 of his 2 FTs at the end.

I was specifically talking about Demar matching up against Jimmy's defense. Jimmy bricking a FT at the end wasn't really what I was referring to.

But you're saying that DeMar a) shouldn't have been the one with the ball or B) he shouldn't have driven to the rim with little time left. The first point is arguable, as obviously the Bulls would have been tightly guarding Kyle, and the second point didn't even come true since DD managed to get a step ahead of Butler, nearly scoring the game-tying bucket/drawing a foul.
