eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 It'd be interesting to see how Thibs would handle this current group. The minutes would obviously be much better distributed but some of the passive guys would probably fold under him (looking at you Ross). JJ would probably be starting right now. JV would likely get 35+ minutes. Lowry would also likely get 35-40 MPG a game though (which would wear him down badly).

This guy has made Aaron Brooks and DJ Augustin look like studs
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Someone on Real GM made the following comment: "Thibs is certainly a good coach, I don't think anybody will dispute that. Unfortunately he does come with a style that seems to lead to tune-out eventually. He drives hard, all the time. I bet he'd be ridiculously good in the NCAA." I think this is a pretty fair assessment. You can't coach every game like it's a playoff game and not expect to piss a few of your players off. He's an upgrade over Casey (by a mile) but he has his warts.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Anybody would be an upgrade over Casey at this point. Pretty sure Vasquez would never the floor with Thibs here. As bad as Augustin was here, he was never running out there like a chicken with it's head cut off
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Thibs is obviously better than Casey but Lowry would play 44 minutes a game and be dead by the playoffs.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 The reserves were announced: http://i.gyazo.com/c0b3147017f1b8364d227d341e508b95.png I'd say that's pretty good, neither Kobe nor Melo should have been starters but other than that it was pretty fair.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 not that bad this year So since there's no controversy from the All-Star ballot, I'll start some by relaying that my tech class today had a 40 minute shouting match over whether or not Demar Derozan was better than Kyle Lowry. It resulted in... "I WOULDN'T TRADE KYLE LOWRY FOR JOHN WALL!" "Yo like real s***, is there any player that can carry an NBA team like Kyle Lowry? na na not Lebron he's got Kyrie and Love" "Demar Derozan couldn't make our f***ing high school basketball team" this one might've been me "Dwyane Wade is a top 10 player in the NBA!" "Derrick Rose is a top 5 point guard, are you nuts?" and an adorable younger kid trying to butt in with "hey guys, how about Kemba Walker?" I love sports fans
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 At least you can have passionate debates with basketball fans. I'm in a redraft with some of my friend and, my God are their trade proposals the worst, these guys spend the entire lunch period coming up with proposals on paper. But of course, it doesn't even compare to baseball fans. I have one good friend who really likes baseball, but unfortunately I haven't been able to enlighten him with advanced stats like I wish. He's still very smart and knowledgeable, but that's about it as far as hardcore fans, the rest are either basketball, soccer or hockey.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 The old folks' home has some good baseball talk.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Its funny because my friends are the same way. Most of them were all great athletes and really good at sports growing up but don't know jack s*** about analytics/advanced stats. I usually don't even bother trying to sway them anymore and just go with the flow and enjoy the games when I'm around them.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 lol Boogie got snubbed from the ASG? He's probably home throwing a tantrum right now.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 lol Boogie got snubbed from the ASG? He's probably home throwing a tantrum right now. Usually i would be pretty pissed at that but he did miss a lot of games, so taking Duncan over him isn't so bad
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Unless they have bonuses in their contracts I don't get why players get so upset over not getting into a fancy exhibition game. I don't think anyone anymore actually puts relevance into how good of a player you are because of how many ASG you go to.

I think they consider it to be some kind of elite club where you are recognized as a star amongst your peers

Demar isn't a great defender but he's a big upgrade over those three.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 JV's become much more of an inside presence recently. Not only is he blocking shots but he's using his length to really alter shots. I've been very pleased, his help defense needs some work but as it's been mentioned multiple times, it doesn't help when you have to back up your guards on every single play.

I don't know about getting upset for not making it, but what's not to love about being named an all star? It's a weekend where the league publicly sucks you off and you get to hang around the elite of the league. I assume it's gotta be very humbling, and the number of all-star game appearances/selections is certainly taken into consideration when judging whether a player is HOF worthy or not.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Of course you'd get upset for not being named an all-star if you deserve it when guys like Demar Derozan have been an all-star.

This should never be the case and I hate it when its mentioned. Its been clear its a popularity contest and that deserving players get snubbed year after year. Also a massive part of it is what position you play and what conference you play in.

So annoying when Raptors media refers to him as "their allstar". Can't count how many times I hear "Toronto is playing really well and they are doing this without their allstar" when they were playing really well a month and a half ago.

I never said it should be, but unfortunately it is.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 This is the Derozan I like. Attacking the rim and creating easy shots for other players and not settling for jumpers.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 The offensive is flowing. Faaap.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Took some awfully questionable shots, but good to see him bounce back with the defensive/effort play.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I know the NETS are pure garbage but the Raps play and effort looks really good so far. Just have that jump they have been lacking recently.
