G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 i hope they are sending him to a humility course and a there's no dumb ass "I" in TEAM. and he should have to pass the "it's not all about you" course as well. before that, I'd rather not have him. He now falls under the umbrella of "very talented, underperforming player with baggage" Some of those types figure things out and go on to have good careers. Some of them crash and burn. Hard.

Yeah, who cares if he plays well, if he isn't first in line for the group hugs, f*** that guy!
flafson Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 He will be fine, he just needs some time.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 2B according to Wilner Good idea to get him some reps there, maybe AA is close to getting us a decent 3B or something
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 They said today on McCown that Lawrie was playing 2nd... Anything to read into here? I think it's a great idea to put him at 2 and then slide Jose/Edwin to 3. That leaves Colby, Melky, and Jose/Rajai in the OF with EE/Lind DH. Should solve some of the 2B issue, provided Lawrie can handle it with the glove and the stick.

Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Brett Lawrie at 2B = waste Disagree vehemently if he can handle the position. Lawire at 2 and EE/Jose at 3 is better than Lawrie at 3 and Izturis/Boni/Kawasaki at 2.

There are more and better 3B available these days than 2B And I see no problem with him playing there. I think he'll be great at it.

I think he'll be great at it. Exactly. We already have three quality players who can play 3B, and none at 2B. I can't imagine EE or Jose at 2B (super lulz at EE there), but I can see LAwrie there easy. I think it makes perfect sense. Easier to fill a hole with an in house candidate than to let AA overpay to fill it.

I think he'll be great at it. Hasn't Edwin had enough chances at 3B? Even this year in the few games he played 3B he already made a couple errors, yes he makes some great plays.... but he also makes a lot of errors, consistently. Not good.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Yep Edwin's days of playing regular 3B were over a few years ago. He can't do it. Lawrie at 2B makes sense if you have a big bat you're working into the lineup, but if all you're doing is getting Davis into the outfield everyday then it's silly. EE can passably play three positions, 1B, DH, and LF. I cannot fathom why he is not getting reps in LF. Helps his value and keeps him ready in case he is needed out there.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 You're funny, LF... haha according to BREF he played 3 games in LF in his entire ML career Last year he did well in LF, range and routes were quite reasonable.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Last year he did well in LF, range and routes were quite reasonable. I dunno
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I dunno Yeah from what i remember he was reasonable out there, i am sure he could be adequate.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 You're funny, LF... haha according to BREF he played 3 games in LF in his entire ML career Almost anyone can and has played left field.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Yeah from what i remember he was reasonable out there, i am sure he could be adequate. I think he would be fine. Geeze the Braves threw Evan Gattis out there.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Joe Maddon puts Kelly Johnson in LF quite regularly too Not the same thing lol. Johnson played LF alot with the Braves when he first came up.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Didn't he already lose about half a Lawrie before this season started?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Lawrie at 2B just means more options for the team, flexibility. Move to Bautista, Lawrie and Edwin to open a position to Pillar is an absurd idea. Maybe if King Kalfus is ready.
8D Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 C-JPA or any serviceable catcher; AJJ is close 1B-Lind 2B-Lawrie SS-Reyes 3B-EE RF-J-Bau CF-Rasmus LF-re-sign Davis/Gose. at least you'll have good D every night and backup eye candy in case the season sucks again. DH-Melky, buy someone cheap this offseason Couple of things that concern me is that Lind is barely walking now and EE might have the throwingitis again. I expect Lawrie to eventually excel at 2B D. Offer JJ qualifying offer and hope he accepts. Dickey JJ (health concern) Buerhle Morrow (health concern) Happ Back ups/Minors: Nolin Stroman Hutchison Drabek Romero Trade JPA + BP depth for quality SP. Or maybe just a bit premature on all fronts?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 So I imagine Lawrie is going to play through the MLB AS break with Buffalo and be activated right after the break. I wonder if they'd activate him against Baltimore? Probably not.
