G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Yes....regardless it was a good contract at the time, who knew he'd fall off a cliff. Exactly. Any GM would have happily extended Ricky with that contract.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Yes....regardless it was a good contract at the time, who knew he'd fall off a cliff. This Romero thing is one of those things that happen and is probably nobody's fault. Signing Romero and Morrow looked like a good thing to do as they tried to build a starting rotation around them. They also signed Jose Bautista, Adam Lind to reasonably good contracts so they were trying to take that core and build a team around them. Without the Romero Meltdown, the starting rotation would've been in better shape last season and there's a chance they wouldn't have been as desperate for starting pitching which may have prevented them from making the trades they made...who knows.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Didn't see this posted but another poor outing for Romero on the 4th. 6IP 9H 2BB 3SO. He now has 30K/36BB in Buffalo.

I think I would be more confident in Romero if I heard he would stop pitching now and spend the next 8 months on the Delabar program... Don't ask me why.

Don't ask me why. I don't see that helping his command. That's the problem, not his arm strength or velocity.

Don't ask me why. Something has to give, pitching in game situations clearly isn't helping. He needs more coaching, though the "Velocity Program" doesn't seem to target his particular issues. I'd put him on the program (because I want everyone in the system to have heavy balls!) but it's going to have to be coupled with other stuff.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 ...but it's going to have to be coupled with other stuff. Temporal lobotomy
flafson Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I don't see that helping his command. That's the problem, not his arm strength or velocity. To me, players know that he's having hard time throwing strikes so anything low they know will hit the dirt so they don't touch it. If you give him more velocity it might help his fastball and in turn help with his breaking balls.

Caper Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Plausible. The truth? No one knows what to do with Ricky right now. It couldn't hurt. No one can say for sure the velocity program helps..... but my god am I tempted to say it for sure does.... McGowan actually looks healthy. Delabar went from substitute to potential allstar..... god damn Brett Cecil is an allstar... f***ing Brett Cecil..... a small sample size for sure.... but if I were in charge in of the Jays pitching..... I would have every last god damn one of them on that program this off season... from low A to the major leagues..... I'd say f*** it... what do we got to lose?
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Just move him to the pen and have him work single innings until he gets his command under control. The guy is clearly mentally weak and needs his hand held through this.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Good night for Romero: 7IP, 6h, 2er, 2bb, 7k for win as Buffalo beats Syracuse 6-2
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Good night for Romero: 7IP, 6h, 2er, 2bb, 7k for win as Buffalo beats Syracuse 6-2 Looks like good Romero showed up.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Looks like good Romero showed up. Ricky Romero since ditching new mechanics and going back to his old stuff: game 1 5 2/3 innigs 3 earned runs 3 so 2 bb game 2 6 innings 0 earned runs 3 so 3 bb game 3 7 innings 0 earned runs 6 so 3 bb game 4 3 1/3 innings 5 earned runs 2 so 5 bb game 5 6 innings 3 earned runs 7 so 1 bb game 6 6 innings 3 earned runs 3 so 2 bb game 7 7 innings 2 eanred runs 7so 2 bb totals 3.51 ERA 31 so 18 BB since going back to his old mechanics. Still a few too many walks, but K rate is decent and clearly trending in the right direction.

Still a long way to go, but at least he's not walking everyone anymore
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Romero is a warrior, it is good to see him progressing. We need his arm and leadership on the field.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 You need to add markers here or someone will think you are being srs wut? Romero is a great guy, Latin-Afro-WhiteBoy mix...He always gives their best and that is very valuable and worthy of note. Hope to see him in the majors even as a LOOGY.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 You need to add markers here or someone will think you are being srs Nah I agree with Angrioter. I think Ricky's presence is actually pretty important for this team. I miss seeing him play and I'm sure his teammates do too. Clean mind Romero in Action http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=7428283&query=Romero+one-hit
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I will give that Ricky cares a lot about his team and his performance. But I never saw him as a leader of any kind.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I remember this one very clearly: http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=14784795&c_id=mlb Dammit we could sure use THAT Ricky back...

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Another excellent game for Ricky today 8.0 IP 4H 1BB 4K Who thinks he gets some starts for the Jays in August?
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Another excellent game for Ricky today 8.0 IP 4H 1BB 4K Who thinks he gets some starts for the Jays in August? His chances are looking better. It would be nice I'd AA could rid us of his contract somehow.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Trade to Angels for Cron Then he could represent LA and everythang...
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Trade to Angels for Cron He likely calls him up soon if Romero continues pitching well and if he can be half decent AA should flip him in the winter.
