When I last looked at the standings, we were double digit games out of a playoff spot and things were looking bleak. However, with New York and Texas on respective 4 and 5 game losing streaks, things are looking a lot better now.

With a win tomorrow, we could be as little as 5.5 games out. As bad as the season has been so far, that's actually quite manageable given the amount of time we have left. Hopefully the pitching can keep rolling, because that's what is going to make our recent good play sustainable. Reyes is going to be an absolutely massive boost as well.

Those wildcard games are such a crapshoot though, holy crap

But how exciting to be in one. I'd go for sure.

Get back to .500 and things will look much better. I'm still sticking to my reverse jinx, season's over bros!

Dickey and Johnson is all that needs to happen. 3.50 ERA between them and we could be back in contention.

Yeah. To go from what they've been to what they could be could add ++ wins.

Not to mention the drama of chasing a playoff spot in September. At this point, meaningful games in September would be amazing given the April they had.

Yep we were lucky to catch Texas at a bad time and we actually took advantage of it..a sweep would be huge. Colorado seems to be slumping as well, especially with Tulo going down.

Fowler still has a sore hand too apparently, has trouble gripping the bat right now.

Well, it does feel good when the shoe is on the other foot, doesn't it? Freakin' Jays made a few teams look better than they are in April, kind of fitting that they catch a team like Texas in a big slump.

Strangely it doesn't seem impossible... and when you break it down it seems even more possible (this coming from a glass half empty type)...

By the looks of things now it's going to be either NY or BAL and OAK or TEX getting the WC spots, respectively... probably TEX wins the division... so OAK gets one WC spot.... and I can easily see NY falling off the map... so the 2nd WC spot could go to almost anyone, but most likely it goes to BAL... unfortunately what was a lucky season last year has turned into a crazy good offense this year. With an outside shot going to TOR, TB, NY, or KC.

And call me a conspiracy theorist but I think MLB wants NY to go to the play-offs and they may just tweak things to make sure they do because: 1) It's NY 2) It's Rivera's last season

I,m pretty much taking it a game at a time , No unrealistic hopes Just looking for the team to improve . Especially the defense . Rotation is still in taters with Dickey pitching hurt , Morrow a disaster and hurt . JJ gone missing and relying on the likes of Wang and Rogers .

Still As Grant pointed out Reyes and others coming back that could put this team in overdrive .

Reyes -2weeks , Morrow - 2 weeks , Lawrie -1 month ?? Perez - 1 month Happ -6 weeks ?? Drabek - 6 to 8 weeks Santos 6-8 weeks and Hutch - 8 weeks

Right now it's all about jumping teams, next up is Kansas City at 1.5 games ahead of jays. Just need to take it one team at time.

Colvin is playing center right now though and playing very well

The only teans I am concerned with are our division and Texas or Oakland. KC and Cleveland won't win 90 games.

Probably Baltimore? I'll just say it AGAIN-- I don't care if Boston is playing .600 baseball, they are way over their heads and they will tank out of first, past second and into third or fourth. Take away the 6-2 v Tampa, who they've owned and the 4 free wins against Houston, who were beyond bad at the time and that percentage comes a little closer to Earth. Yes I see the runs scored/ runs allowed. Mind boggling and it won't sustain.

Boston is not the team to catch for the division. Baltimore is. The wild card? The #2 team in the west, the Yankees, maybe the Tribe or Royals. I don't even see Boston as a playoff team.

cliche, but it's all about starting pitching. IF JJ, Dickey, Morrow can get it together this team ill be very dangerous. That's really what it will come down to.

Today is probably a loss, but then they need a 4-2 homestand to keep the momentum going into the Tampa, Boston roadtrip. If rehabs go well, both Reyes and Morrow should rejoin the team in the middle of the road trip. Not getting excited though, just glad they're pitching better, especially Buehrle, hoping for JJ to get it going to show teams he's healthy and maybe someone can offer a good young player close to the majors.

Our playoff odds were at 0.1%, now they're at 1.7%. Not bad, all things considered. At this point, I'll just be happy if the team can finish above .500.

The offensive and the bullpen are present, an improvement of the starting pitching would give us many wins.

btw A's .586, Padres .500, LAD .433.....

Same here, if they can get to .500 by the ASG, they have a homestand right after that could give them a chance to put them in a position to have meaningful games in August/September. I'd be happy with that.

I think the Jays hopes for a playoff spot are still very slim, but the games are watchable now. If the Jays play .550 for the rest of the season, they will end up with 83 wins.

With Reyes & better pitching, Jays could play better than 550 ball.

At the very least, we will see some fun baseball from now till the end of the season. I have my tickets for September 29th against the Rays, so if they are still in a race by then I will overjoyed.

Agree

The team is fun to watch again, and will only get better with Reyes back

I don't miss Lawrie. At all.

If only the starting pitching could find a way... Morrow or Johnson back and better, a successful second call up for Ricky, a better than expected few starts from Wang, Hutch or Drabek activated and pitching OK. There are lots of good things than COULD happen, but none of the above seems particularly likely. I fear the starting rotation will continue to be our Achilles heel all year...

If we can have a good week vs. Colorado and Baltimore, we have a decent shot of being in contention by next weekend. Yankees have a difficult schedule with the Dodgers and Rays, and the Rangers have first place Oakland and St. Louis. Baltimore gets the first place Detroit Tigers.

Its about 3 people: Dickey, Morrow and Johnson. We need them to pitch like they should, and all be healthy at the same time.

I can't even remember what happened to Morrow...

I actually found myself thinking that during yesterday's game... Make the punk earn his way back into the lineup... Fat chance, but still wishing...
