GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Good news all around. Except for JJ who's getting kinda annoying.
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Once Hutchison and Drabek come back, we'll have more depth in Buffalo(which is where they're likely headed). Luis Perez is rehabbing as well--Jays are going to need to make a decision on him soon too.
DwightDM Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I know blisters and stuff to pitchers can be a bitch and complicate things etc.. but I really like what RA Dickey said in that Fangraphs article despite his suckage this year.. basically that there's guys who can only pitch when they are 100% and guys who can go 200+ innings. Our made-of-glass pitchers (ie Morrow and JJ) are really showing it this year.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Good news all around. Except for JJ who's getting kinda annoying. Even if the opportunity of getting JJ for a short term discount presents itself, I don't want any part of it. Injury prone as s***. The guy seems super mentally soft. Time to move on.
Sparky12 Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Sure will be nice to get some depth back at SP, hard to believe how bad it's been this year.

Though I don't see any of them actually going.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I forgot Sergio Santos existed It's best to forget he and Ricky are still in the organization and getting paid good money Less painful that way
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Johnson is just a pain in the ass. 65 games into the season and he's given the team 35 mediocre-to-bad innings. He was the reason AA talked to the Marlins in the first pace. Woohoo!
The_DH Verified Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 He was the reason AA talked to the Marlins in the first pace. Woohoo! I thought Boni was the reason. What a trade.

Late inning lefty relief for teams like Detroit , Washington , etc
admin Site Manager Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 How long has Reyes been out now? I'm too lazy to look.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I know a lot of us would've preferred that AA signed FA pitchers to shore up the shambles of a rotation the Blue Jays had, how are guys like EJax, Lohse and others doing since I'm too lazy to look it up?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Well the two you mentioned..........s***! Who else was talked about that's actually doing well?
admin Site Manager Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 60 days on the 20th I believe, he's well ahead of schedule. We should see him back by the 28th at the latest. Nice, that's not too bad.

Jackson has a 3.38 FIP and I would be thrilled to have him in our rotation atm. Francisco Liriano 1.95 FIP 1.4 fWAR Anibal Sanchez 1.78 FIP 3.3 fWAR Scott Baker injured All the guys we were linked to have been excellent, who have pitched.

I was for signing guys instead of emptying the farm, but the other side of the coin is, would they have signed with the Blue Jays? Certainly, this team couldn't afford to go into the season with the rotation in the shape it was at the end of last year. I don't think Sanchez was realistic and even Jason Grilli turned down the Blue Jays which makes you freaking wonder. Anyway, can't go back in time. We'll see what happens.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I wanted Sanchez If we'd have singed Darvish last year and Sanchez this year, we could have kept most of the farm I agree, but Texas outbid everyone else by 20 million or something like that and didn't Sanchez have a deal with someone else, but had an agreement with the Tigers to give them a chance to match any offer? Anyway...all water under the bridge now or something like that.

Sparky12 Verified Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I wanted Sanchez If we'd have singed Darvish last year and Sanchez this year, we could have kept most of the farm That is troubling, I mean we're spending the same money anyways
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 That is troubling, I mean we're spending the same money anyways It would've been ideal, but it's not like they knew how much it would take to sign Darvish and I doubt Sanchez would've preferred to sign with the Blue Jays over the Tigers and it's not like the Tigers didn't have the cash.

Just think, if we didn't make all these moves, this is the kind of guy we probably would have picked up. I even wouldn't have mind signing Carlos Villanueva. I don't know if I would have given him $10/2years like the Cubs did, but it would have been nice to have him here for a long man, and could have moved into the rotation when the injuries came up. He could have stuck around 4.00ERA, which would have been just fine. Guthrie 7-3 with 3.60ERA, bet Buck loves that signing. 4.91xFIP -.3WAR.

We shouldn't have needed Villa Rogers has become our Villa We thought we had 6 legit starters to start the season but we have suffered from more than expected injuries and suckage from those 6
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 add Kevin Slowey and Kevin Correia Garbage. No. Ortiz, Laffey and Jenkins are garbage. Kevin Slowey and Kevin Correia are excellent 6th man (depth bro)
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 To me the problem hasn't been the 6th starter as much as the 1-4 starters not pitching up to their potential even when healthy.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 The problem 1-4 70% 5-6 30% Thtat's fair. Improvement on the 70% will get them back to .500. Coming into ST, a lot of people were fine with the Blue Jays' 6 starters (Dickey, Morrow, Johnson, Buehrle, Romero and Happ), things just haven't worked out this way for different reasons.
