G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 DeRosa should pinch hit for Arencibia in late inning clutch situations Oh wait! He doesn't like that. I forgot... http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120509&content_id=30820710¬ebook_id=30820958&c_id=tor OAKLAND -- J.P. Arencibia was caught off guard on Tuesday night when he was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the top of the ninth inning with a runner in scoring position. Manager John Farrell opted to take Arencibia out of the game for veteran Omar Vizquel with the go-ahead run on third base in a 2-2 ballgame against the A's. The move came as a surprise to Arencibia, who was already in the batter's box by the time he received word from the dugout that he was being pulled. "Throughout my career I've always driven in runs, I've always been a guy in those situations, and I feel like that's when I thrive," said Arencibia, whose club eventually lost 7-3 on a walkoff home run in the ninth. "He's our manager and I support every decision and all I want to do at the end of the day is win, that's all I care about."
bzapple Verified Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Thanks Tabby, I always enjoy your useless stats.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 SLG w/ RISP is not a proxy for clutch. Also, who cares. Yes, it is.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Honestly you need to stop starting so many threads (or just start a thread called Ark's thread of random thoughts and post all of your crap in there). If you had a clown pic as an avatar you would have ended up banned already.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 It's been along time since the Blue Jays have had a clutch hitter. I guess Agents and Beeston don't discuss clutch hitting when it comes time to sign someone, only home runs. They think thats all the fans in Toronto know about.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 This thread is why we can't have nice things.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 lol Funny because most would use BA to qualify w/ RISP... SLG is at least a lot more telling than BA.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 If we're gonna do this, can we do it right? http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=30&type=3&season=2013&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0&team=14&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=3&season=2013&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0&team=14&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=12,d Edit: If it doesn't already, click on "WPA/LI" or "clutch" to sort. I like the idea of WPA/LI more than their clutch stat, as I think the clutch stat is accumulative. Although I haven't read up on them much lately. It's all noise though, I don't think it correlates very well year-to-year at all.
