hummus Verified Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 wat It don't matter if you can get hits off of 5ERA starters, look at his advanced stats he's not that good. And certainly not the player Toronto should be mortgaging their future on
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Profar for Bautista is more then a fair trade for Texas, stop being delusional. If Bautista discovered his stroke (no homo) earlier we would be talking about a potential hall of famer. Profar is clearly not enough for Jose. Add a ogando and one of those young international signings that the scout drool all over
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Bautista+AA+Beeston for Profar+Daniels seems like a fair trade to me.

Besides, we are looking at this the wrong way. A better question would be "What would it take to pry Bautista from Toronto?" Top prospects don't get dealt because teams go hunting for them with superstar bait -- it's the other way around. It is almost always the team holding the star that has the leverage. Hence why we extracted D'Arnaud and Drabek, or had to give up Syndergaard and D'Arnaud. Star + control = top prospect on the table at the very least.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Aramis + Lucroy for JPA + Osuna + Stilson + Lopes + I would do this in the blink of an eye. Seriously, that would be a huge win.
over500 Verified Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I'm calling a Chase Utley trade. 100% that's going to happen... he's a typical deadline target, Phillies get rid of an aging 2B who's in his FA year for prospects AA is dumn, but that would be a whole new level of dumn. It won't happen.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 AA is dumn, but that would be a whole new level of dumn. It won't happen. Well, no. A trade of, like, Kevin Pillar or someone for Utley would be fine, if not smart. A trade like Sanchez for Utley would be new-level dumn. It really depends. For the right price, Utley is an excellent acquisition.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I say Kinsler is a more realistic option this offseason. Though for Profar, it would have to for sure be Bautista or EE +.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 If the Jays were in contention, Utley would make a lot of sense. Right now, he doesn't. Kinsler in the offseason sounds more realistic.

If this team goes on some ridiculous run and we just miss the post season, I could see Kinsler. Although I would be completely fine with an EE+ for Profar trade. A Bautista one would make me think, though.

It's not like this is our only year of 'contention,' and Utley would fill a major hole. I could see a KJ-like trade for him to evaluate him first-hand.

I could see a KJ-like trade for him to evaluate him first-hand. It will be if we can't do something about the starting rotation going into next year. Our lineup has been serviceable and I am comfortable with an order that includes Reyes, Melky, Bautista, EE. There are holes further down, but there are very few teams without those holes. Hopefully the top of the order can compensate. The real problem lies with our starters and attention should be focused on what AA will be doing about the rotation. Next year will feature Dickey, Buerhle, Morrow, and Happ. Hopefully we can gain some depth with Hutchison, Drabek, and Perez coming back but we are still a few arms away from being competitive.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 It will be if we can't do something about the starting rotation going into next year. Contention was in apostrophes because Anthopoulos genuinely believes we'll be in contention next season.
jaysfaithful8 Verified Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Contention was in apostrophes because Anthopoulos genuinely believes we'll be in contention next season. Oops, missed those. It is still possible, though. We just need something to be done about the rotation - easier said than done, I know.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I wanted to ask you guys what you think it would take to make a trade for Profar at the deadline this year. Is texas even interested in trading him? What about Bautista + Johnson (if he is pitching well) + Arencibia for Profar? Would it take more? Thoughts please Jose has a great contract and still has a few good seasons left. IMO he could definitely fetch Profar+. If AA is going to move Bautista he should absolutely look to maximize his value by packaging him with a good reliever (Delabar?) and JJ (first he has to be healthy and pitching well, then someone needs to offer more value than a comp pick) at the deadline. Every contender would be interested in adding that much talent and depth for a playoff drive. As for what that package would get you I'd imagine it would be something along the lines of Profar + Olt + Alfaro + Perez would get it done.
Mike_Wilner Verified Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 The only trade that should involve Bautista is one for Bryce Harper or Mike Trout
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 The Jays would be all over that, WAS and LAA wouldn't consider it.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I say Kinsler is a more realistic option this offseason Agree. Rangers would rather keep Andrus and Profar. Everyone knows they don't need all 3.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Mine involves a time machine and literally gallons of scotch. drinking scotch at that kind of level is such a waste. unless you are referring to the generalization of whiskey and including vile, cheap, throat burning, gut rot it's a waste of money. lol even still whiskey hangovers are only second to tequila hangovers for brutality and the cheaper the s*** the worse the pain up and down.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I say Kinsler is a more realistic option this offseason. Though for Profar, it would have to for sure be Bautista or EE +. Not a lot of number 1 prospects have been traded but I disagree. It's not specifically a need for Texas so they might not do it but it's very believable as far as trade value.

It's not specifically a need for Texas so they might not do it but it's very believable as far as trade value. I don't think many #1 prospects have had such good competition behind them, though. I like Profar at #1 but if Tavares (or however it's spelled) or Buxton were ahead of him, I wouldn't mind it. And then there's Bundy and such. Has a #1 prospect ever been traded in the same year they were ranked a #1 prospect, though?
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Agree. Rangers would rather keep Andrus and Profar. Everyone knows they don't need all 3. I really don't want Kinsler and that contract though, the Jays are old and expensive enough. Not that Kinsler isn't a good player, he just is not someone I would give up the kind of value it would take to make a deal.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Delmon Young was the #3 BA prospect for 2007 and was traded shortly after the season. Was #1 overall in 2006 as well. That's the only close comparison in the BA era. And he was traded for Garza, right? Huh, this would be kinda cool. Historical and such.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Yep. Young player for young player trades are always the best. *cough* Jesus Montero for Michael Pineda *cough*
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Yep, those guys were both all-everything talents. Always funny when it ends up like it has. Also, Anthony Gose for Brett Wallace! I really wonder how a Tavares for Profar trade would turn out.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 i wonder if a JJ/Lind deal could pry profar away especially if berkman or moreland go down, could always throw in our top 10 catcher to seal the deal.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 How high was Jesus Montero when he was traded?
