GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Wow, a pitcher turning on time... I'll be damned.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Wait, wasn't he only supposed to miss 1 start 6 starts ago? Out until May 10th
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Wait, wasn't he only supposed to miss 1 start 6 starts ago? I have no clue, but I know when he was put on the DL, he was supposed to start pitching on the 21st or something around that, so this really isn't that bad.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Wait, wasn't he only supposed to miss 1 start 6 starts ago? No kidding. Why do teams and players hide injuries? Just say what the f*** is wrong and deal with it accordingly.
Shogun89 Verified Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Why the hell didn't he just start for us tonight? Could it have been any worse than throwing this kid under the bus and possibly ruining his career?
oakville69 Verified Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Josh Johnson hasn't pitched since April 21st. For some reason, the Jays delayed the DL till April 29
CHRIS Verified Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Wait, wasn't he only supposed to miss 1 start 6 starts ago? Originally I think he was just being pushed back a couple of days... By Blue Jay standards though, this is a lightening fast return to action.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Is this his final rehab start? I ask because Gibbons was quoted saying he'd need 'at least' 3 rehab starts. Then again, he was supposed to only miss 1 start...lol. I won't believe he'll be back until he's back.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Really need Johnson to come back and be the 1A kind of guy we were hoping to get.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Really need Johnson to come back and be the 1A kind of guy we were hoping to get. A good rest of season from JJ would make a world of difference to this club He's the reason AA initiated the Marlins trade. Here's hoping he makes it all worthwhile.
Rajaifailedgrade1 Verified Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Any chance he could pitch Wednesday against the Braves? I don't want another call up disaster
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Any chance he could pitch Wednesday against the Braves? I don't want another call up disaster Nope. At this point it's either Thad Weber or Ramon Ortiz.
Rajaifailedgrade1 Verified Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Nope. At this point it's either Thad Weber or Ramon Ortiz. Oh ok, so we will def lose 1 game to Atlanta.

Would AA keep him, make him a 1 year qualifying offer around 14 million to get a draft pick for 2014? I assume AA would not offer him a long term contract based on his current performance.

Right now I'd lean qualifying offer. JJ on another 1 year $14M deal would hardly be a bad thing and the comp pick/added draft money is more probably more valuable than what they can get in a trade if he signs elsewhere.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I agree. I am curious if AA would be willing to acclerate Johnson's return to the team, to see if he can pitch well. A few good starts before the trade deadline would improve Johnson's trade value. It would also help the team. I do wonder if Rogers tells AA that he spend 14 milion elsewhere? If you are Josh Johnson & end up having a mediocre season, wouldn't it make sense to accept the Jays 14 million & try to have an excellent 2014, then cash in with a long term contract?. Would any other team dare sign Johnson to a long term contract in 2014 based on his 2013 results?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 After 1-2-3 first inning, @BlueJays Josh Johnson heads back to the mound
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 6 up, 6 down for @BlueJays Josh Johnson. Picks up first strikeout

As it stands, the team also projects to stink (hopefully that changes).. so those things make it a less than ideal place to showcase yourself on a 1 year deal. I would do my one year deal elsewhere. Plus not live in Canada. No offense to anyone but that's prob a factor too if there's choices.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Obviously, it really depends on how JJ performs. Unless he is downright terrible/injured I'm sure someone will offer him a 3-4 year deal at the least though.

Unless he does a big turnaround.. it might be better to take a 1 year deal if him and his agent still think he's an elite pitcher
