So I can't be sad that a great scout and great person passed away? f*** off.

R.I.P. Epy, you'll be missed.

My memory of Epy is from a drunken Cito Gaston at the very first Toronto Beer Festival. Cito sat with us and told a bunch of Epy Guerrero stories and in every single one he called him Epy "f***in" Guerrero. RIP Epy

Angrioter is probably helping Epy's family out right now, that's why he hasn't made a thread.

RIP Epy Guerrero.

I had no idea who this guy was. I had to go look him up on Wikipedia.

Really? He's helped establish the Blue Jays' latin presence and signed over 80 MLBers including Carlos Delgado and Tony Fernandez. Dude's pretty important.

I've always wondered if Epy's stature in the DR was hurt by Mario's greed. Somehow I doubt that as I know even at this year's WBC win a couple players mentioned him as an influence.

In the last six or so years I've been following the Blue Jays, I honestly can't recall ever hearing his name.

It's understandable, just surprising I guess. I assume you don't follow prospects as much as some do. I started leaving casual fandom around the 2009 draft and I got into prospects, so since I've always followed prospects quite a bit, I hear his name every so often. He was a super scout.

I'd love to keep up with prospects, but I just don't have the time. As it is, I haven't even really kept up with much of baseball outside the Blue Jays. This last semester, I averaged about 11 to 12 hours a day, every day, on campus. And while I did take breaks, and waste time occasionally, most of it was spent in class, doing homework, or working on my paper. Now that the semester is over, it actually feels weird only spending about eight or nine hours a day on campus.

This makes me so excited about university, lol.

RIP Epy. Many of us that were fans of the team since day one, appreciate his influence/shaping of this franchise from the very beginning starting with Alfredo Griffin, the teams first real home grown talent.

In the eighties it was more great Dominican players like Tony Fernandez, George Bell, Damo Garcia, Junior Feliz..... To this day the Dominican flavour is still a major part of this team.
