James Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Now, Beeston could return the logical favour and point out to Anthopoulos that the Gaston hire was made early in a failing season — 12-24 in 1989 on May 15 — and the team went on to post 89 wins and advance to the post-season. Rogers ownerhip has too much invested in this season. So, who should be the man to replace Gibbons as he is re-assigned to a scouting role? Even though bench coach DeMarlo Hale was originally considered as manager, it should not be someone already in the clubhouse. Hale is part of the current crisis. No, it needs to be someone that is familiar with the organization, with the players and could become either a short-term or long-term solution. The best solution as manager among current Blue Jays personnel would be Sal Fasano, presently a roving minor-league catching instructor. The 41-year-old Fasano had an 11-year career as a major-league backup catcher from 1996 to 2008, including a year with the Jays in 2007. He played for nine different major-league teams and in the five years since he retired, has managed for three years in the Jays’ farm system, including a Double-A Eastern League title at New Hampshire in 2011. http://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/2013/05/06/blue_jays_bullpen_john_gibbons_can_be_dispatched_without_firing.html I like Griffin's position; Gibbons was brought it under the assumption that the team would "self-manage", it's not, and although Gibbons's not totally the problem, something needs to be done to shake things up. Thoughts ?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 All I have to say is that if Gibby's gone, it'll be Hale, and not Fasano, imo.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Self-manage? We have baserunning Einsteiens like Lawrie and Davis, as well as egomaniacs like Bautista and Reyes, and the plan was to let the team self-manage? Hilarious. And the idea of letting Derosa lead as a player? That never works. You can't have some old has-been hitting .200 trying to lead the team. You need someone everybody looks up to, to do it.

I think what's more hilarious is someone calling another stupid while misspelling "Einsteins."
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Holy f***. Less than 2 days in and you're a quarter of the way to 1000. This is a fatcowian pace. Technically not a quarter yet. But yeah, this is what happens on a weekend and a shortened school day. Fatcow can eat my dust.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Fatcow did it over a multi-month period, so you have a ways to go. You have a very real chance to hit 1K in the opening week of the forum though, and without spam. That would be unprecedented. I'm making history over here. Keep in mind, this is the busiest part of the year for me. In a little over a month I'll be done with school and then I'll be posting at like 4x the pace lol. Just wait, you ain't seen nothing yet.
ErrorcebiaPassedBall Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I really don't understand the Fasano obsession with the fan base. Regardless, the players are the ones losing games, not the manager. I haven't seen any evidence of Gibbons costing us a game with his in-game management decisions.
