Nafro Verified Member Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 On the Mound today... Daniel Norris (Buffalo) Matt Boyd (New Hampshire) Jeremy Gabryszwski (Dunedin) Chase De Jong (Lansing) TBD (Lansing) I hear this TBD kid has quite an arm on him... Like all young prospects he is struggling to find an identity. In all seriousness, any chance it's Smoral? Does anyone have a Matt Smoral update?
King Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 I read that Smoral was held back in EST due to a nagging back injury. I forget where I read it though. Labourt is on the dl currently with a split fingernail

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 I'm torn. Is it better if he has a nagging back injury (which might explain his command issues this spring)...or is it better that he's healthy, but can't throw strikes consistently? There is no reason to be torn when he's clearly hurt, stop over thinking it
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Matt Boyd is having a nice start to the season as is fellow team mate Danny Barnes! Next year country or do we see them helping out with the big club?
tercet Verified Member Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Chill & Relax like I've said multiple times earlier itt about Boyd. Hes a control/command pitcher who is an extreme flyball pitcher. These types of pitchers usually get destroyed as starters in the majors. It's nice that he is putting up pretty sick stats in the minors though.

King Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Tim Raines was on Lansings radio broadcast the other day. He was really high on JD Davis. Says he could be one of the top defensive outfielders in the org., can play all 3 outfield positions well. Called him a student of the game, very smart and should have a good future in pro. ball. Also spoke of DJ Davis, he said it's been a struggle because he was very raw coming out of high school. Still learning/improving on reading the pitcher off of stolen base attempts, among other things.

cana9000 Verified Member Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 DJ Davis might be raw and have struggled severely with his strike zone control thus far in his career, but the tools really are impressive. His home run the other night was a shot, albeit on a pretty bad pitch... http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=102163683&sid=milb But still, a lot to like if he can control the zone more consistently (he has shown a slight improvement so far this year, still just his 21 year old season). The speed power combo is pretty special if his pitch recognition and base running ability can be improved with good coaching.

baubau Verified Member Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 sooo what hap with Norris? Pompey went 1-4 with no walks or strikeouts. Norris went 5.2 innings, struck out 4, had 4 hits, walked 3 and 1ER. So overall, good from the line. Not sure if anyone here actually somehow caught the game live or online to give any input.
