KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Taijuan On!- Carson Fulmer, SP (CHW) The Bryce Is Right- Brett Phillips. OF (HOU) ISO Horny- Ian Happ, OF (CHC) The three picks before mine completely wiped my draft board in reverse order.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I had Reynaldo like top 3. Too bad I did my rankings AFTER I traded down three spots for an extra pick and put myself behind North.... My initial Top 3 was Moncada, De Leon, and Lopez. I put Rodgers in the same tier as the two pitchers once he got drafted by the Rockies.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 not that I had heard of this guy, but where are the K's for a guy with that big an arm at such a low level?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I think North hit a home run here. He's Yordano with a better build, a better team, and a better park.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 not that I had heard of this guy, but where are the K's for a guy with that big an arm at such a low level? Stat scouty sense not tingling.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 not that I had heard of this guy, but where are the K's for a guy with that big an arm at such a low level? He's got an 80 fastball, the Ks will come. He's never going to be an elite K guy, but he can be a beast nonetheless.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Stat scouty sense not tingling. My thoughts exactly. Must have gotten a good grade from BP. Great makeup, signed an autograph that one time.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 My thoughts exactly. Must have gotten a good grade from BP. Great makeup, signed an autograph that one time. Reynaldo made the major lists; this isn't some random guy I dug up who got a good eyewitness grade once lol. He throws 100 with regularity, has two useful breaking balls and a repeatable delivery. I'll bet on that package every time, and the stats aren't even bad.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 So NJH, then who?, then me? NJH - Gibbers - Min - Silvergun - Me
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I think North hit a home run here. He's Yordano with a better build, a better team, and a better park. I'm really not here to poop on the guy. But wasn't Yordano King 11+ per nine at the same age and same level?

This is exactly the sort of guy you catch just before he blows up all over prospect lists. He's tracking to be Top 50 on every list by end of season, and you have another excellent trade chip. This is exactly what happened when I snagged Yordano late in the initial draft, and now he's a coveted young arm already in the majors.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 Stat scouting my first pick and taking STEPHEN GONSALVES, assuming he isn't already owned. Can't msg next guy

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Name one major success story from your stat-scouting prowess. Jesse Winker Matt Olson Jose Berrios
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 And if Reynoldo ends up in the pen he'll be a f***ing monster reliever.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Jesse Winker Matt Olson Jose Berrios None of those guys have even debuted. Cool success stories. Also, Berrios doesn't count, he's been on prospect lists long before you had him.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Not really. Look at Yordano's first taste of AA in 2012. After 80ish innings at the level this guy is at... K'ing 11+... like I said.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 Reynaldo could be Yordano, or he could be Martin Perez. Who knows
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Stat scouting my first pick and taking STEPHEN GONSALVES, assuming he isn't already owned. Can't msg next guy Nice pick. He was on my list

Also, Berrios doesn't count, he's been on prospect lists long before you had him. That why I got him in the 5th round? None of my guys have debuted yet because I stat scouted them really young. The second draft I was a moron and took all recent draftees, which was a mistake, but also not stat scouted. chill out guy
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Anyone want Spencer Adams or Amed Rosario for a pick?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Why didn't you stat-scout your last pick? I can understand grabbing recent draftees at the very top, but you could have gone in any direction with your last pick (Cornelius Randolph is fine but not too good to pass up or anything). Yeah you're right. I probably would have looked further but I liked the sound of Randolph better than my stat scout targets and felt the risk is probably similar. E: Actually I take that back and am now filled with regret. Someone trade me a pick for a prospect + something.
TRM Verified Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I'm between two guys right now and I'm kind of hoping Gibbers picks one to make my life easier. Although I find that possibility very unlikely.

SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Not really. Look at Yordano's first taste of AA in 2012. The results are way different IMO. Yordano had a downtick for 29 IP but before that he was 10+ K/9 for his minor league career with similar walk totals to Lopez. Lopez has yet to post anything over 8 K/9 (aside from one 4IP spurt)
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
