Who saw this kind of offseason from San Diego happening? I'm not a fan of all the moves they've made, though its nice to see the Padres making splashes and headlines.

What do the Pads do with Maybin?

Lol, poor f***er, owed something like $16M and wasn't even selected in the LOD.

e: Wait, he's not the poor f***er in this scenario.

Maybin

Venable

Quentin

Smith

Liriano

Most of them have to get traded. Quentin could platoon with Alonso and turn into a 1B/OF platoon guy. Venable could hang around as a bench piece I guess, but he'll be much easier to move than Maybin so Maybin is probably just the 4th OF.

Seth Smith could play 1B (with Quentin) and they could trade Alonso for whatever.

Rymer could simply start in AAA but him and Renfroe are kind of redundant as AAA RH COFers and they might be smart to just trade Rymer now while he's still just 23 and a "prospect". Although if he goes ham in the PCL they could get a better return in the future, maybe. Of course they could have him penciled in as the Upton replacement in 2016.

They could do a lot of different things and they'll have to do at least some of them before the season.

They could still flip an arm or two too, like Kelly or Despaigne, who are young and talented and way down the depth chart.

Cashner

Ross

Kennedy

Johnson

Morrow

Erlin

Luebke

Wisler

Despaigne

Kelly

Can we not do like the BBDL and switch to fantrax? Having league history on yahoo is kinda cool.

I don't think switching to Fantrax is even on the table. Band with me, Darrel overlord, and we'll veto the s*** out of that.

Depending on how the LOD season goes, I think it should at least be worth a mention. A lot less work for us.

I find fantrax ugly and cumbersome, personally. I don't think administering a Yahoo league is all that much work, especially in season.

Having to pay league fees would be a big turnoff for me. If the DDL was going to be a Fantrax league we would have much different stats too.

What's nice to see about it? You either improve your team or you don't. I don't understand the Upton move at all. He has one year left on his deal and they're at the bottom of the win curve.

Their new management team seems very, very dumn.

You just want your terrible records erased....

Yeah I find it so frustrating how everybody is heaping praise on AJ Preller and saying it's so nice to see the Padres being so aggressive.

I don't like a single move they've made, in a nutshell, except for maybe the Myers deal which I guess you could make a decent case for from San Diego's perspective.

They have the biggest OF in baseball and now they have possibly the worst defensive unit patrolling it. I don't think they'll even be .500.

They seem to have a poor understanding of what constitutes value. Kemp and Upton are great hitters but they're mediocre assets. The Padres probably figured they should add right-handed power any way they can since their offense has been pitiful in recent years.

I think it's a push for relevance and an attempt to change org culture, more than an attempt at actually making the playoffs.

I mean, maybe if they get lucky and everyone stays healthy and they get 2 or 3 breakouts they can sneak into a wild card...

They're kinda doing what the Bluejays did in 2012

Yeah sort of. They are just much worse to begin with.

I'm in general in favour of teams trying improve no matter their standing (I like the Twins and White Sox moves). The problem is that the Padres aren't really improving.

The Dodgers are primed to go on a pretty lengthy run atop the NL West.

Nobody wants Clay Buckles or Tim Hudson?

Surprised a rebuilder doesn't want to throw you a milk bone for a flier on Buckles.

I'm looking to move some starting pitchers either for a bat, or prospects.

Mike Fiers

Vance Worley

Chris Tillman

Wily Peralta

Also, Phil Hughes is available as well and I'm willing to package him and Starlin Castro for a top bat.

Additionally, I'm willing to move Curtis Granderson, Casey Janssen and Rafael Soriano for picks. If a rebuilding team wants to take a flier on those guys, especially Janssen or Soriano who could land closing gigs, could be an easy way to make a profit.

I'd move prospects for Fiers

Anyone else really hope Haren retires because of the comedic value of TRM losing him and Kuroda in the same offseason?

He's also rostering Colon, Dickey, Peavy and CJ Wilson. He basically needs to build an entire rotation, minus Samardzija, in the next year or two.
