Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Marco Gonzales isn't nothing though Pretty similar to Boxy-anointed-ace Miles Mikolas, actually.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Pretty similar to Boxy-anointed-ace Miles Mikolas, actually. Miles Mikolas has better stuff and plays for a better team.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Here I thought you would applaud Hurl for trading a dead asset who may possibly never pitch again after beasting the world into flames next season as a 45 HR .900 OPS monster. He's a good pitcher and the Angels are dumb so I have no doubt he will pitch again.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Jesus Christ So Hurl traded Ohtani and Gore for Kikuchi. Yellow fever doesn't even make sense here. Confirmed. I'm sure Kikuchi will die on his flight over to Toronto.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Was Hurl's plan to take Victor Victor in the Waiver draft all along? Maybe it was a ruse.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Was Hurl's plan to take Victor Victor in the Waiver draft all along? Maybe it was a ruse. Victor Victor isn't waiver draft eligible.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Victor Victor isn't waiver draft eligible. What if he is straight to the majors?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 What if he is straight to the majors? I was just going by the rules. 4.4 - "During the Rule 5 Draft, most remaining players in the Yahoo database (with the exception of prospects already owned on MiLB rosters) will be available. The Rule 5 Draft typically consists of MLB international signings, MLB players cut from keeper rosters, and unowned prospects (prospects may only be taken if they have played at AA or higher, see MiLB Roster Management; international signings that were subject to international spending limitations may not be taken in the Rule 5 Draft and ones that were not subject to such restrictions are Rule 5 eligible). "
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Will depend exactly when he signs. He is subject to the international singing limits, so he will be MiLB (Rule 4) Draft eligible UNLESS he makes it to the show before the draft! Then he'd be the rare rare coveted waiver wire pick-up. There is no way he will be Waiver (Rule 5) draft eligible.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Alright I'm in need of either a 3b or SS. Probably prefer 3b since I'm pretty confident that Bregman will rack up plenty of games at SS and I'd rather not pay the premium for a SS. Everyone is on the table for the right guy but I'll spotlight a few: Jose Berrios Trist-on McKenzie Mike Foltyniewicz Yonder Alonso Scott Schebler Jay Groome Ross Stripling I'll peruse the rosters and see if there's anything that makes sense but please feel free to shoot me an offer.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Trade To Laika: Jose Berrios, Greg Bird, Jay Groome To me: Josh Donaldson
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Trade To Laika: Jose Berrios, Greg Bird, Jay Groome To me: Josh Donaldson Berrios >> Donaldson
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Berrios >> Donaldson My team >>>>> your team
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 My team >>>>> your team You were able to dump Bird. So this is almost true now
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Trade To Laika: Jose Berrios, Greg Bird, Jay Groome To me: Josh Donaldson What are you doing? Donaldson could play like 50 games next season, just gonna give up two of your guys up like that?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 What are you doing? Donaldson could play like 50 games next season, just gonna give up two of your guys up like that? If there was no risk with Donaldson, he'd have been a lot more expensive. As you to what I'm doing, I'm trading from strength to address a need. Also, 2 of my guys? You mean Greg Bird, who I'd have struggled to roster through the cut or Groome who already had TJ and has had meh results in his pro career?
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Berrios is obviously the most intriguing piece. Seems very frustrating to own so far in his career however. Probably a good deal for both sides given how they are sitting on the competitiveness projection curve
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2018 Author Posted October 6, 2018 Not shocked by these reactions given the league's over-infatuation with youth but I'm only satisfied with the return. Donaldson isn't that old and he can probably still carry an entire fantasy offense. Berrios is a fine dynasty asset but he's been more of a fantasy SP3 the last two years. I was hoping to get a core bat, not an arm. Bird is just a throw-in. Not really expecting much. Groome is, I think, a good buy-low. Similar to Frazier in that the shine is completely gone but the upside might still be there.

I know you're down on it because Donaldson *could* carry an offense, but he could also miss half the year because of weak calves. Conversely, yeah, Berrios could just be a SP3 or he could be an ace like he was in the first half of 2018. I just really needed a 3B and given my pitching, especially with Paddack likely up next year, I felt like I'll still be a top 5 pitching team without Berrios. Really, I think I've taken on much more risk then you did. You could have refused to deal him and then have him injured or ineffective next season, reducing your return even further.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2018 Author Posted October 6, 2018 Really, I think I've taken on much more risk then you did. You could have refused to deal him and then have him injured or ineffective next season, reducing your return even further. This is the case whenever you trade for an elite veteran (in a balanced trade); you're pushing more assets and younger assets into one dude who is older. But without taking risks like that you're just never going to win in a 20 team dynasty league. And you're right, I was always going to jump off the Donaldson train if someone offered an appropriate return this offseason. After some brief deliberation I figured that Berrios + whatever else I could milk out of it would be appropriate so I took it while it was available. Keeping him was only really in the cards if the market was just ludicrously low.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Wow -- Berrios+ for Donaldson? What questionable management... It's no wonder I swept Boxy in our postseason matchup.

I'll have a delicious cheesesteak sandwich in your honor next season. A signal of the changing of the guard, as it were. *Unless one of the other excellent teams in the league's best division beat us both.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 I can't wait until next season when Donaldson spends the whole year on the DL and Boxy ends up back in the draft lottery.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 You guys should challenge trade 1st rd picks you bigmouth cucks.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 er, for 2020 Well I wanted in on him betting but he dick tucked as per usual I'll gladly take an updraged 1st rounder, though.

I wonder what realmin is doing these days He's probably a douchey financial district guy with a coke habit. or dead.

Drafting Juan Soto in LOD would be a wet dream. Almost as good as drafting Vlad in both LOD and DDL.
