jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 It could conceivably be both, we just need to get this s*** sorted out and not be draconian with punishing an honest mistake too harshly, because it really leaves a s***** taste in your mouth if it happens to you when it was an honest mistake. It's because Silvergun has a personal vendetta against me for some reason. This was my first illegal pickup in this league by the way, and was an honest mistake due to the search function being messed up on the spreadsheet, though I'm willing to comply with any punishment that is decided. Ray is on my bench right now & will bench Greinke tomorrow.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Who cares. Let's get more trade analysis. Did BTS pick my pocket or is he overreacting to a small sample? Is Juan Soto the next Juan Gonzalez?

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 I agree. Players getting taken by mistake has happened more than a few times, it's just unfortunate that in this case the player actually recorded some stats. Why should this carry a harsher penalty? There's nothing we can do about the stats in the matchup so the next obvious thing to do is try to counteract that. Personally, I think sitting two aces is overkill but asking for picks on top of that? Ridiculous. There should be a clear line which a certain someone is ignoring called intent and as I recall, this individual approached me with renting a player a couple years ago which was deemed to be ethically dubious. How he feels that he can get on his little high horse and preach to others about this is pretty rich but sadly typical. Someone tried renting a player from you? That seems like a North type of thing to do
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 who is the council now a days anyway? I want to get opinions and get something on the books ASAP, like before the end of day if possible. If there is draft pick stripping than sitting 2 starters is too much IMHO, so we should let JB know before he does so.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 This seems more like something to would happen to Boxy. You're forgetting the part where they both get career altering injuries immediately after the trade.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 11, 2018 Author Posted April 11, 2018 (edited) Thanks for the email. I probably would not have noticed this today without it. I think everyone is making some good points. We don't want to be punitive/draconian... ... but we do want to deter illegal adds I think if it's noticed before any stats are accumulated then for rare infractions we should not punish at all. IIRC this is how we've done it in the past. I don't remember any precedents of illegal adds where the player accumulated stats. It makes sense to try to correct what happened to the current matchup - regardless of what the illegally added player actually did. So part of the punishment should be to sit one or more superior or equal players that week - if possible. But it won't always be possible to do that, so we need a more consistent draft pick component. And the punishment needs to sting a bit if there is a windfall to the benching - say if Robbie Ray blows chunks, then jaysblue will have benefited from his punishment, which would suck farts. Repeated issues should probably add some weight to the punishment. FWIW it seems like jaysblue doesn't even check the spreadsheet sometimes. I can quickly find examples from our drafts: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/25-A-Very-Darrelly-Dynasty-League?p=1174027&viewfull=1#post1174027 http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/25-A-Very-Darrelly-Dynasty-League?p=519243&viewfull=1#post519243 He's essentially a repeat offender when it comes to lazy picks/adds. And how egregious the add was should have some bearing. It's ridiculous to assume that, say, Senzel is unowned. It's more reasonable to assume that Tyler Beede is unowned at this point in his career. And similarly, we need to consider whether the mistake was made in good-faith. If someone does what Silvergums alluded to and decides to stream an owned player because the punishment is worth it in context, then that owner will be treated severely and possibly removed from the league. I'm assuming that jaysblue was just being kind of lazy, and not cheating. I like the idea of the opponent picking who the offender specifically has to sit. If possible. I doubt thehurl will be here in time so I'll make an interim ruling in this case. And I agree that we should record all this stuff for reference. RULING --> Jaysblue should sit Robbie Ray this week and lose his 2019 4th round pick for this. The pick disappears. Edited April 11, 2018 by Laika
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 thank you oh benevolent dictator for your ruling! Truly the best form of rulership until your offspring tries to take over!
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 This is silly BTS. My boys are launching BOMBS. Fortunately for you I don't have a pitching staff.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 In this case losing 2 high calibre starts seems more than fair for a few s***** innings of Beede pitching and will almost certainly affect the match-up more. We should probably get some input from the 'offended party' (Hurl). It would be hilarious and s***** if he sat Ray +1 on the leagues blessing then they get blown up and cost Hurl the match without his input. The only way I was the offended party was all this talk about my farm (fair as Beede is number 1 on my drop list at this point, I just never had the need and he's just 1 injury filled season away from when he was still a legit prospect). Anyway he was playing FTD, and I think the punishment was fair. It was our final wrap up party yesterday and I started drinking at 1:00 pm. Which I am quite proud of...but the important thing here is that I am back into a world with legit internet in 9 days.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 I have some interest in Cano, depending on if you want to ream me or not.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Jeeze, Felix sitting 89 with a 7% swinging strike rate. Oddly enough, two different contenders sent me cold call offers for him yesterday.

BTS Community Moderator Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Oddly enough, two different contenders sent me cold call offers for him yesterday. I'd roster him for sure, but my worst pick is 35, and I'm not giving that up for him.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 I have some interest in Cano, depending on if you want to ream me or not. He's past the point in his career when I would expect to get an elite prospect for him. I would prefer to bundle multiple pieces from that list to a contender for one good prospect. My current risk appetite for low-level pitching prospects with ceiling is quite high, so I'm willing to roll the dice on those types.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Betances is 30? Holy s***, I figured he was like 25/26.

I may be interested in a Cano + Davis/Betances thinger but I'm not too high on either of those relievers. If only Hurl hadn't decided to trade for Miller for some reason, you'd still have Vasquez.
