Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Looks like Mike Zunino is for real, he's crushing the ball. I'm thinking 2017 is gonna be a 30 homer season. I'd put your eggs in the A.J. Reed basket, that's a breakout that might actually happen.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Wow, Dominic Ficociello is for real, guys. Dude is crushing the ball, will probably go 20/20 at least this season.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 Milwaukee could have one of the league's best fantasy OF Braun: 30/15 with big slash Broxton: 20/30 with walks Domingo: 20 HR with walks Add in a little Thames and Villar, and you've got a stew going. Too bad they aren't playing fantasy
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Wow, Jake Bauers is having an incredible spring, moonshot after moonshot. Too early to call him as ROY?
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 Jabari Blash has a 1.500 OPS this spring with five dingers. Post-hype rule 5 breakout and power star?
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 Jose Martinez is destroying baseballs this spring for St. Louis. Big minor league numbers in the past. Late bloomer? add add add buy buy buy
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Looks like Fatt Adams is back, guys. 3 dingers and a .300 avridge to go with an OPS over 1. Whoever landed him in the late rounds is going to be laughing.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Wow, where did Brock Stassi come from? How has this guy flown under the radar for so long? 4 dingers and a .400 avridge? Incredible, dude crushes the ball.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 I don't really understand why Boxy is mocking people for being encouraged that a guy who hasn't played since breaking his hand has come back healthy and is showing signs that the gains last year may have carried over.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 Anyway, real talk about Keon: 20/35 .225/.310 That's my prediction, and I suppose that's a pretty valuable CF in our OBP league. But his "huge spring" is so utterly irrelevant.

Because getting excited over spring stats is retarded. I thought this was self evident but apparently not.

Probably just because boxy gets triggered exceptionally easily and gets super bothered when other people have nice things. When you've had as much fantasy failure as he has, it's just natural to try to drag other people down.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 But his "huge spring" is so utterly irrelevant. It's relevant insofar as it's better than seeing him K 50% of the time and do nothing. Nobody is expecting him to be Ken Griffey Jr based on Spring Training.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Watching you go on another one of your obnoxious "dinger helium guy" trips is annoying. Why? I already traded him. What is it to you? I am allowed to like players. I don't own any shares of Broxton so you can take your nefarious assumptions and be gone.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 Dinger, you should be pumping up Ryon Healy. You actually own him and he's way more gooder than Keon Broxton.

I've pumped those tires a bit and no one cares. The projections don't know he changed his swing last year, so the boxies of the world will dismiss him out of hand.

BTS Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Because getting excited over spring stats is retarded. I thought this was self evident but apparently not. March isn't devoid of useful information. When a guy displays that he's healthy after returning from something tricky like a broken hand, that's good. And as Dinger says, a high-variance player hitting the ball hard for a month is better than that same player making bad contact and striking out at a 50% clip. If, say, Devon Travis was healthy and mashing right now, people would rightfully be encouraged given a lot of the questions about him that lingered through the offseason.

Too bad they aren't playing fantasy Colorado, Pittsburgh, Miami, Boston in that order. Colorado has a nasty fantasy OF in Cargo, Dahl, Blackmon (with Parra off the bench).

It's kinda funny how velo for pitchers in Spring Training is pretty widely accepted as an important precursor and yet since we don't have access to ST exit velo, it's assumed we can glean nothing from hitter performance. All we're doing is looking at the early performance of a hitter who showed elite exit velo last year and has the tools to be a fantasy relevant. Nobody is pumping up a one-dimensional AAAA DH, we're actually talking about a player who is locked into a starting role for the first time and has been talked about substantially by the analytics community this offseason.
