Laika Community Moderator Posted March 3, 2017 Author Posted March 3, 2017 GD is on thin ice (not over that, which is fine, but his moves). I would replace him with King but don't think that would go over well enough with the other owners. Which moves do you disagree with? You're right that King would be a contentious successor. We'd have to league vote on it. Whereas I'd unilaterally let GD in because he's a good kid, North.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Who else could take over? <------ <------ <------
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Or just kick North out, he doesn't seem too invested, if at all. GD_FTW!!!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Adding multiple top pitchers, heading into the year with no real holes, and getting North's first real shortstop since before the days of Jed Lowrie has me on the thinnest of ice, guys
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 where are you going? oh my god he deleted my post holy s*** either Carleton or UofT for CS
King Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 King & AG are already in the top dog league, and were too busy to accept an all-star league nomination, so I graciously decline on their behalf. Thank you. Thanks Boss. I'm not interested in joining this league, so GD can keep Norths team. I know the last time I joined a team as a co-manager with an agreement to keep the posting in this thread to a minimum you had a bitch fit and quit the league, so I'll spare you the drama.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 oh my god he deleted my post holy s*** either Carleton or UofT for CS I've always thought this forum needed a bigger Ottawa contingent.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 I've always thought this forum needed a bigger Ottawa contingent. I'm actually leaning towards it. The board already has a great UofT CS major in Orgfiller, I'd be redundant. Oh who am I kidding. King is coming to Toronto and I need to get the f*** out
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Actually, good opportunity: BTS, on a scale of 1-Scarborough, how big a shithole is Ottawa?
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Actually, good opportunity: BTS, on a scale of 1-Scarborough, how big a shithole is Ottawa? If you're into clubbing or the music scene you'll find it boring. Aside from that, it's a great place to live. Very few complaints from me.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Worth it. Btw are you actually too busy for the new league or did you just bitch out like everyone else thinks? I was nice enough to give you the benefit of the doubt. Actually who cares tbh, bye king! Just so you don't keep going to that well, I chose not to join the league after I saw the parade of people joining who like to draft and quit (mostly from DDL). So, I figured I'd spare myself the trouble. It was like a who's who of people who quit LOD, when they realized they couldn't pick up 3-WAR players from the waiver wire.

Very few complaints from me. I will second this. I love Ottawa even if I just lived there for weekends for about 6 months. Traffic is s*** there now though.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 So it's pretty safe, vanilla. Boring, even. If it were an MLB player, would it be, say, Ian Kennedy? Closer to a Kole Calhoun, but pastier.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 So it's pretty safe, vanilla. Boring, even. If it were an MLB player, would it be, say, Ian Kennedy? Marco Estrada. Multicultural without any of the hispanic flare...replacing hispanic with French.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 TL;DR for Ottawa: Boring Cold as f*** in the winter Dangerously close to Quebec
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 is your name king, dipshit? I'll answer anyway. I'm not sure how attempting to shame people that didn't enjoy a high-concept 30 man league hosted on a putrid website is relevant to playing in a league that exactly duplicates our shared rules. Weak ass argument, but you've never let logic stand in the way of a snide comment. Totally not a troll though. Once again, you're already out so who cares? Thanks for coming out, best of luck to you both this year! boom!

BTS Community Moderator Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Sure, you might be close enough to hear the Francophones whining that too many people speak English, among other things. Nah. Gatineau is a lot like Montreal in that you don't really have the conservative Francophone types. I know a lot of people who live there and don't speak French.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 So what is the best projection system to use by board consensus? Steamers and Depth Charts usually seems pretty close to each other, ZiPS can differ a bit. I generally question Steamers pitching projections. What are the thoughts?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 So what is the best projection system to use by board consensus? Steamers and Depth Charts usually seems pretty close to each other, ZiPS can differ a bit. I generally question Steamers pitching projections. What are the thoughts? Steamer consistently performs the best of all the projection systems. This has been established mathematically. The only real choice is between Steamer on its own or Steamer as part of a composite. The Depth Charts projections itself is a composite. One of the reason they seem so close to Steamer is that Steamer puts out its projections first so for a while there, they were identical. Others things to note: a) Steamer isn't very good at projecting playing time. Crowd-sourced estimates are usually the best for that. Projecting MLB production based on MiLB data is a very volatile undertaking. Steamer gets criticized for this but I don't think it's a flaw so much as a limitation and I'd very surprised if this wasn't an issue with any system. MiLB data isn't as valuable as MLB data. There's no way Steamer or anyone else can change that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 3, 2017 Author Posted March 3, 2017 ZiPS has been trash in the last couple of years, apparently (worse than Marcel!!!!!). Steamer seems to be performing well but maybe there's some recency bias in preferring anything. A few years ago I think ZiPS was performing slightly better than Steamer. Depth Charts is just the midpoint between Steamer + ZiPS, with a playing time adjustment based on Fangraphs' depth charts. PERSONALLY right now I just use Steamer and then make any mental adjustments that I think I can justify, if I feel like it.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 I'm intrigued by ATC, which just got added to Fangraphs a couple days ago. It seems to incorporate all of the publicly available projection systems.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Steamer without a doubt. Cross continually updates it and makes it better and the process is excellent. The only pitchers it will miss right now IMO are extreme flyball pitchers. For example Estrada, Straily, Clippard, and Osuna.
