GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Holy s***, Spanky just got 3/5 of the Rays' 2015 rotation.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Ballsy buy on Verlander. I traded Myers/Gausman/Bradley for Verlander and Choo about 2 months ago in my other league and have nothing but buyer's remorse so far.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 It's not my fault you wouldn't part with Daniel Webb. If I recall he was holding up the deal and you were freaking out with letting him go. Also, nothing was ever finalized. You went on the board and said you had a deal in place for Kendrick when nothing was ever final. On a side note, you made good deals today for your squad. Enjoy some buds to celebrate!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I treated you the same as everyone else? Yet, you have to tell me you hate dealing with me, and I show no respect? You remember having a deal in place with me earlier this year to not only pull it back, but trade him to BTS who's in my division? Telling me you hope my team doesn't make the playoffs for not taking on Lohse? Shall I go on.......short memory bro!? Yup, you're not livid........... jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Sil, what would you propose that could beat that? There is no point now with the deal done. I could have topped that if I wanted to and if given another opportunity. I told Jay make sure you give me a chance to beat any offer and he never did which is what is frustrating after being in on Bautista for the last week. He got a good return in two young arms for his rotation. Not denying that.

I've never been known to be a wonderful negotiator but s***, who outright wishes ill will on another team for not trading for one of their players?
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Wow I love the Verlander buy. Matt Moore hasn't even been great when healthy in his career, certainly not in a K/BB and OBPA league. I don't think he's a premium asset at all, really. Verlander may never be a true ace again, but he's still probably a league-average or better pitcher going forward and is as durable as they come. I like this trade for FTD on both a short- (get Verlander's ROS innings) and long-term basis (betting on a rebound from Verlander). The three-way makes sense for all three teams IMO. Spanky did well to get two good/great young pitchers for an aging star. It's hard to trade for young major leaguers but Spanky found a way. I like that he did that instead of just getting prospects. I think Dinger's flipping of Chris Archer to get an outfield upgrade was warranted. While Choo doesn't seem like a star anymore, I still like as a 2OF because he gets on base, hits at the top of a lineup and has some pop. BTS traded a pitcher from his deep stable of pitchers and got a hitter that he needed.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I really like the 3-team deal for everyone involved. If I had to pick a favourite I'd lean towards Spanky, but it's close.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 That's the second time this season alone. You need to learn how to communicate with people, that's the 3rd time you've slagged me, not cool Silvio. I'm quite relaxed, actually I'm elated, with my moves today. You need to learn how to communicate with people, that's the 3rd time you've slagged me, not cool Silvio. I'm quite relaxed, actually I'm elated, with my moves today. Communicate? I communicate quite fine thanks. You're the one who needs to communicate better. You've slagged me many times before mate even in the FC league so I wouldn't talk. You never keep your word. What's done is done. Your a hard headed GM and I've always found it tough to work out deals with you because for these very reasons.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I've never had a bad negotiation with Spanky. He is always respectful to me, even if we don't match up. If you make good offers to people, you build good will.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I like you Jaysblue and I respect you as a competitor, but you also take forever to close deals. If you brought your best offer to the table, maybe you would have landed your target, rather than nickel and diming for maximum value.

Yeah I don't like the "come back to me when you're ready to accept something so I can beat it" approach. If everyone dealt that way nothing would ever happen. And it suggests that you're holding back your best offer. When I negotiate I just tell the other owner what I think we should do and how I value the players who could be involved in a trade. Then I ask what they think of those players and the trade structure I've proposed. If we can agree on the valuations and that a need exists for both parties, we work towards finding something acceptable. This has worked well and avoids the possibility of either owner getting outraged by an offer. Edited July 25, 2014 by NorthOf49
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 So I'm not the only one who was in on Verlander. Offered my 1st plus.

Maybe I leave some value on the table sometimes, but I'm okay with that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 I f*** around often, but mostly due to a lack of conviction in what I'm buying or selling. Sometimes I trade decisively and quickly.

I've always found you to give straight, honest responses. I was pretty despaired about your rumoured offer for Bautista though.

This has worked well and avoids the possibility of either owner getting outraged by an offer. I proposed the 3-way to BTS this afternoon and closed it pretty quickly, which I think goes to show how much it suited all of our needs. BTS and I had a side discussion about trading him Choo for a pitcher if the Bautista trade went through, and I knew Cobb was part of his offer to Spanky. I had originally offered Archer + Craig + picks/prospects for Bautista, so switching that to Archer + Choo wasn't a big stretch for me, and I knew that Spanky coveted both Rays pitchers, so he'd probably accept Archer + Cobb if I flipped Choo to get him. BTS upgraded his offence by selling a SP (something he's been trying to do for months), he got to keep Syndergaard, and he took a chunk out of my future rotation. Spanky got the two centrepieces from separate offers he was considering, and I got the best player in the deal. I think if anyone left value on the table, it was probably me... but BTS had the better offer on the table for Bautista (Cobb/Syn+), so I wouldn't have landed Bautista unless I upped the ante.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I was in on Bautista as well. Spanky was straight forward with what he wanted, but I was hesitant. I'm convinced though that even if I had agreed to the pieces, Archer + Cobb beats it, so I have no regrets. I'll take Verlander as a consolation prize. A lot of risk involved, but I'm in win now mode and Moore provides 0 innings for ROS. I enjoy dealing with Spanky. He's straight forward, open to different ideas, and tells you if someone is beating your offer (which I love).
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I've only made like a couple of deals with Spanky, but I like how straightforward he is in what he wants. Good guy to have dialogue with.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I've just witnessed my last Joey Bats dinger....*weeps* Spanky I'm at work late tongiht. Can you send the Verlander for Moore over Yahoo and I'll accept when I get home?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Oh wow everyone is kissing Spanky's ass here. The guy is the worst to deal with. I offered so many deals to him and he never gavel a straightforward answer. All he said, I'm waiting for tomorrow to make up my mind. And he'd respond back with vague emails.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Maybe he doesn't want to deal with you after you wished his team ill will and insult him (apparently)?

Maybe he doesn't want to deal with you after you wished his team ill will and insult him (apparently)? I don't think I've ever insulted him at all. As for me wishing his team ill will I don't think that's necessary after watching him sit in last place every year in the FC league since 2009 and never contend for a playoff spot, let alone to finish with a winning record.
