I'm increasingly of the opinion that the best strategy in this league is repeatedly consolidating lesser picks/prospects/players into high-end talent. Gather depth, trade it for desirable pieces. Rinse. Repeat.

 

Without a doubt that is the best strategy. Any young prospect will always be overvalued in our league.

Oh yeah, I guess I have a 3rd philosophy (to what BTS said):

 

Always be the 1 in a 2-for-1.

 

This is always my strategy in fantasy. However, it's even more effective in 10-12 team leagues where there's usually some kind of value on waivers.

That's my whole gig lol. I don't plan on ever promoting and sticking with a prospect unless I get into an obvious rebuilding situation. Anything decent I end up with in the June draft will likely be flipped for a dependable starting pitcher.

I'm very close to experiencing this for the first time. I still might end up dealing Castellanos before I promote him though.

The biggest issue for me is trading prospects. I have had offers this offseason on guys like Lindor, Alfaro, and Crawford. The thing is I have a hard time trading these guys because I am over valuing them.

And one of the most disappointing things in a dynasty is when you finally accept that a stud prospect you've been dreaming on for 2 years is just a guy.

It's much easier to trade prospects when you're in a race and you're only focused on your short term needs. You just accept that you might be sacrificing the long term and don't dwell at it. It's much harder to move prospects in challenge type trades although those are utlimately more fun, rewarding.

That's why I'm so glad this is a 20 team league, at least there's a reasonable chance you can use just another guy.

 

Which affords you some patience... One of the things that makes trading prospects tempting is to simply pass on whatever decisions may need to be made about a guy's viability to someone else.

In the FC league, promoting Shelby Miller and Julio Teheran this season was an amazing feeling. Also promoting Daniel Hudson back in 2010 as well. When you draft your own guy and they make it to the Show, you can't help but cheer. I drafted Miller, Matt Davidson and Daniel Hudson in 2009, and Teheran in 2010.

I just perused the league, and a couple observations.

 

1. It is offensive how much better Dingers team is then everyone else. I know the season hasn't started yet, and anything can happen (especially in a H2H playoffs), but he's gotta be the runaway favourite and anything less than a championship would be a disappointment for him.

 

2. Giving the defending champ a first week matchup with Boxy is either borderline criminal, or the beginning of a hilarious tradition we should continue for the remainder of the existence of the league.

 

3. Monte Cristo division is abysmal.

 

4. War Puigs are gonna challenge in the Turkey Bacon Club. Heck of a three horse race shaping up there.

Sometimes people pop onto proboards on their phone from work/school, but it's not as easy on a mobile browser to check Yahoo and see who's available.

 

But yeah, people should realize that we're basically in the 22nd round of a 25 round draft at this point. No need to sleep on a pick, or think about something for more than 10 minutes. Pick your flier and pop him, fellas.
