Just to actually get some Jays talk started around here:

Jays have been awful so far. Worse than anyone could of expected. Our starters have been horrible and our hitters have been worse. Relief is the one bright spot. Anyway, who do you think will be the first person to go? A player being traded away or Chad Mottola getting canned. Maybe even AA getting the ax. What is the next step towards righting this team?

I don't think we will see any major changes anytime soon. Maybe derosa or a bench guy will be dropped down to make room for one of the AAA players.

You mean aside from the continuous revolving door of DFA candidates?

AA shows attachment to his guys like Corey Patterson, JoJo Reyes, etc, so I'm thinking DeRosa and Blanco are here to stay.

I'd assume JJ.

It's so ugly right across the board, I don't even know what they can do.

Gibbons probably be the scape goat though.

That not knowing how many outs there were kinda summed up the whole season so far. I don't see how FO and management won't make a big deal out of that.

That was embarrassing.

Gibbons can't go, because if he goes, that's AA admitting he was completely and utterly wrong on a HUGE gamble. It'd probably cost AA his job.

Gibbons is probably here to stay, which is one source of solace for me.

I just hope that AA didn't make one of his famous stupid promises to DeRosa. he's been in a habit of doing that. thinking that it gets him some kind of cred in the league. he's delusional! keeping bad players will lose him more cred than DFAing them.

Oh, he did, and he convinced him out of a radio job to get him here.

I agree exactly with gibbons not being fired.

If Gibbons is gone, AA will have to announce to the world that he was wrong and it will make him look really bad.. even worse than the team record shows.

Well, we could use someone to replace Buck Martinez... and Zaun for that matter.

Good point. I just don't know what else could be done that would be a big enough move to 'shake things up'. I don't think something like firing CM is considered a 'shake up'.

This team is driving us nuts right now, I couldn't imagine being in AA's shoes right now. I probably wouldn't sleep at night.

I think one of the pitchers will be gone, Happ/JJ/Romero/Buehrle. Not Morrow or Dickey though.

When's D-Mac due back?

I think at this point it's pretty obvious that he's wrong. I can't be sure but I'm betting that there is zero ticket sales going on right now...that was AA's biggest asset over the off season, he created buzz and sales. I think Gibbons will be the fall guy and it will be this week.

DeRosa, Blanco and Boni are dead weight that could be replaced from the AAA team without losing anything and most likely would make the team better. that would mean AA having to admit that he doesn't know anything and that his sources are retarded. that's not gonna happen.

Maybe firing CM would be enough to send a message to the team. Although, I can't believe that the team doesn't already realize the poop (what is the stance on swearing on this board?) they're in.

It's obvious that he's wrong but that doesn't matter - it's admitting it that matters. When AA owns up to his mistake he'll probably be fired.

"Marc Hulet [May 2, 2013 at 10:10am CST]

The Prospect Rumor Roundup returns for a second week with a look back at the biggest trade of the offseason...

With Toronto almost 10 games out of first place at the beginning of May, and with the bandwagon already set ablaze by fickle fans, it's safe to say that this is not the type of start to the year that the Blue Jays front office was expecting. The organization orchestrated two key trades during the 2012-13 offseason, which brought a number of high-profile veterans north of the border, including R.A. Dickey, Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle and Emilio Bonifacio. A month into the season, those five players have accumulated a combined 0.3 fWAR (Wins Above Replacement)."

big question would be who is the first player to come in from AAA as a regular and not just an injury backup.

Where they going to go though? Their values are at the absolute lowest.

We'd have to give them away.

It's hard to point the finger. Looking at the stats right now, besides some HR numbers, the whole team has been absolutely terrible.

Pitching and offense equally terrible.

I just don't get it right now with this team, firing Gibbons doesn't make any logical sense other than making him scapegoat. If the fans are looking for blood they should be looking at the coaches like Mottola, Walker and Murphy these guys have obviously failed in their respective areas. Gibbons hasn't failed to manage the game in fact he's had very little to manage other than which pen arm to go to for mop up duty or which s***** bench player to go for pinch hitting/running.

Blanco DFA and Thole called up

No way AA and Dickey can defend it otherwise

Agreed, but I would add DeRosa and one of Bonifacio/Izturis. Bring up Thole, Sierra and Negrych. Thole would provide a lefty singles and on base guy off the bench who CAUGHT Dickey during his CY season, give him 2/5 games for all I care. Sierra would give Gibbons a better righty ph bat that could also be Linds platoon partner, even fill in for Cabrera. And Negrych obviously would be a hail mary attempt at getting something, anything out of 2B, what have they got to lose?

Some would say AA doesn't want to look desperate, well, the offseason trades were pretty desperate if you asked me.

If you're going to send a message, I think you have to start with these guys and see how the team responds.

If the guys that replace DeRosa, Blanco and Boni or whomever is replace, provide a spark, it would also give some of the starters like Rasmus, Cabrera and Lind a little push because Gibbons would have the option of sitting one of them for a game or 2 to give more playing time to the bench guys providing a spark.

Nothing to lose, if the new guys struggle, so what, they won't be worse than the guys they replace and if they start off hot, you get a spark that could help you win some ball games.

Zero chance AA drops Bonifacio. He fulfills all of the qualifications of an AA type of player: Fast, terrible ability to draw a walk/make contact, posseses an inner tube around the mid section.

He's AA's guy.

Posted

He's not going to go from postponing the Marlins trade because of Bonifacio to dumping the guy just because of a horrendous month.

It'll be something small like Blanco. I really, really can't see them dumping DeRosa. Best case scenario... one of them gets hurt (horrible thing to say but whatever) and changes are made.

It pretty much HAS to be at least Blanco at this point. There is zero reason for him to be on the ML roster over Thole.

Jeff Mathis would look pretty nice right about now lol.

LOL, not to mention John Buck, at least you could get a bag of balls for him or trade JPA for some batting practice balls and platoon Buck and Thole without hurting anyone's feelings.
