Jack Roslovic seems pretty good himself. I still don't understand how/why he was in that trade. Pure gravy for Columbus.

Is there a non-zero chance that he ends up being the best player of the three going forward?

Roslovic was severely underplayed by Maurice and asked for a trade. He wasn't going to re-sign in Winnipeg and had no contract into the season. His hometown is also Columbus. That part of the trade made perfect sense. His usage in Winnipeg didn't.

Former late 1st round pick who hadn't established himself as a top 6 player and publicly asked for a trade isn't going to demand a lot on the trade market.. Jets fault entirely though.

What'd you think of the overall deal? PLD for 2 years seems to even this deal out.

Kind of hard to evaluate. I mean I've seen people say that this is a steal for Columbus and people say it's a steal for Winnipeg.

Laine is a polarizing player. He's just... not very good. He can shoot but that's about it. I personally hate those kind of players. It's like a baseball player who socks 30 to 40 homers a year but doesn't do anything else. Not to mention he's already clashing with Torts. It's a f***ing trainwreck.

If Roslovic has taken a step forward, then it makes a lot closer. I think Dubois is a lot better than Laine but if Roslovic is actually good now it makes it a a lot more even.

I don’t follow the NHL anymore but I got a text that Brian Burke was hired as President of Hockey Operations for the Penguins. Isn’t that, like, incredibly dumb?

Why is it dumb, he knows the job inside and out? I think it's fine.

Agreed.

I think Winnipeg did well to move on from him.

I mean is he really worth the cap space he's going to demand? I don't think so. And Cap Space is ridiculously tight in this league. If you tie yourself in to a player like Laine.. it seems kind of franchise crippling if you think about it. I don't think you can win with players like him. He was part of the problem more than he was part of the solution.

Thanks. Just thought Burke became one of those dinosaurs who valued players that sucked? I only casually follow the NHL, NBA and NFL.

Then it'll be like Jim Rutherford never left!

f***, I need a new team.

Because the NHL has a massive "old boys club" problem. Guys like Brian Burke and Ron Hextall have been around forever... bring new people in! It's terrible. Teams are the same way with coaches. They'll fire a dinosaur just to hire another one.

Man, I kind of hate hockey. This sport just isn't fun for me at times. The NHL Suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Well it's not like he's the GM, he'll basically be Mark Shapiro, he's a pretty smart businessman.

lol... I gather you hate this?

John Chayka being an unmitigated disaster disaster in Arizona and Dubas having no success so far in Toronto has probably set things back like 15 years.

To be honest, I'm not invested enough these days to be overly bothered by it. But if I still was, I would.

Ducks locked down Vegas and handed them their first regulation loss. Anaheim actually steps into a playoff spot with the win, some good signs of progress with a few of their young players. Probably still a couple years away from being back to contention but it's always a positive to see a young team be competitive most nights.

John Gibson might be the best goalie in the league.

Yeah they might only need to get about halfway back to being a good team and he can take care of the rest.

I really don't think people realize how good he is. At one point (before the team in front of him completely unraveled), Gibson had the best career save percentage of any goalie who had played 100+ games, ever....

Easily one of the very best in the world and of this generation. If he didn't play in one of the smallest hockey markets, Gibson would be as highly regarded as Price etc. Perhaps the only other goalie who can be considered his team's franchise player

Is he available in the WTPHL?

I'm not saying he isn't any good, I'd say Vasilevskiy, Bishop, Rask, Keumper and Gibson are top 5. Quickly glazing over the last few years numbers.
