It's really not severe enough to warrant a longer suspension. Cowardly, unnecessary and all those other adjectives apply, but the degree of impact just wasn't there.

Agreed. If he had cross checked him in the back of the head like Kadri then ya, multiple games for sure. But really he just gave him a little shot to the back of the head... Nothing that isn't done a hundred times in any given game. What made this look bad was him sneaking around like a burglar, doing it, then sneaking away like a coward.

I'm not saying Kadri's suspension wasn't justified. I'm saying that Marchand deserves a suspension of at least 3 games for that, given the intent and his history.

His intent was to give the guy an annoying shot in the head and that's what he did. There needs to be way more degree of impact to justify a multi game suspension. He barely touched the guy, we wouldn't even be talking about it if he hadn't snuck away in such a cowardly fashion.

 

Sorry but you're trying to pass off a two minute roughing penalty as being way more than what it was. Marchand is a rat but that doesn't turn his minor penalties into majors.
