I like Marleau, though 6M AAV is a lot for a player on the downside of his career & approaching retirement soon. Who else was going to offer that much? He's only a 40-50 pt player now, not a 70-80 pt guy anymore.

I've really the offseason so far for all of the Canadian teams. Seems all could have done way better with the $ they ended up spending.

Ottawa's offseason has been very bad so far:

 

- Lose Methot to the expansion draft and watch as Dallas acquires him for a 2020 2nd round pick.

- sign a mediocre 4th line C for 1.65M/year

- 3 years @ 2.4 for Condon

- the optics of Alfredsson leaving the team again

 

I hate Eugene Melnyk.

I would've preferred Marleau for 2 years, but I guess 3 isn't the end of the world. The coin is significant. I know he can still skate...and Babcock loves him like a son. I see this as a good mentor for Mathews, Marner, and Nylander.

Honestly couldn't have been much worse. I think Dorion is one of the worst GMs in the league. Horrible with the media too.
