I didn't check your link but i remember the stats...whichever line he is on...they don't score to many times or have the possession...he will be a force and i love the deal as i said....perfect signing...term is a bit long but if you look around the league today you cant help it...

because they signed a depth guy for 2.5 mil a year?

 

also you forgot that they got a starting goalie for basically nothing. seems like a pretty decent offseason to me, especially for a rebuilding team.

Paying a 1st and 2nd for the privilege of locking an average goalie up for 5/25 isn't getting a starting goalie for basically nothing. And yes, signing a bad player for 4/10 is a bad move.

I mean you guys have to be a bit disappointed that your super-awesome new front office has overpaid for a goalie and targeted plugs like Matt Martin and Kris Russell in free agency, right?

not at all. this team isn't ready to contend so signing "plugs" as you say is pretty much exactly what they should be doing. they're still finding their identity. I would rather them sign guys like Martin than shell out money for dudes like Backes.

 

As for overpaying for a goalie, that remains to be seen.

I am actually pretty satisfied with the Leafs offseason. I haven't had a problem with any of the moves or a lack thereof.

Shouldn't they be trying to add players who are actually good? The obvious concern here is that they think Martin and Russell are good.

This team feels split in what it wants to do sometimes. It's like the team made a deal with Lou or some other "old school" hockey guy in that the analytics group will be heard often as long as the team appeals to the old schooler's yearning for big, gritty guys every once in a while (eg. Keaton Middleton pick, Matt Martin signing).
