Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Might be old news but I didn't know that Andy Frost was out as the ACC announcer.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Might be old news but I didn't know that Andy Frost was out as the ACC announcer. Really?
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Leafs are busy today. Yeah signing Matt Martin to 4 year deal. LolLeafs
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 love the deal. add some force in our lineup....i was hoping for 2-3 years but overall its a good deal. big hitter and good possession player
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Eric Staal for 3/11 seems like a steal. I don't really care how few points he had last year.

BTS Community Moderator Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 lol, aside from Matthews the Leafs offseason has been horrendous.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 lol, aside from Matthews the Leafs offseason has been horrendous. Another top 1-3 pick next year wouldn't be all that bad I guess.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Flames new tandem of Elliot and Johnson is pretty fricken good for 4.2M.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Eric Staal for 3/11 seems like a steal. I don't really care how few points he had last year. Yeah Staal is goooood.

Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 lol, aside from Matthews the Leafs offseason has been horrendous. because they signed a depth guy for 2.5 mil a year? also you forgot that they got a starting goalie for basically nothing. seems like a pretty decent offseason to me, especially for a rebuilding team.

A 1st + 2nd round pick + a 5yr/25M contract is nothing? That's news to me.
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 A 1st + 2nd round pick + a 5yr/25M contract is nothing? That's news to me. its not nothing but it was good value same as the martin deal.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 conditional 2nd and basically another 2nd rounder. the contract is fine. edit: the conditional second was the Rychel trade. so basically 2 second rounders. not much.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 because they signed a depth guy for 2.5 mil a year? also you forgot that they got a starting goalie for basically nothing. seems like a pretty decent offseason to me, especially for a rebuilding team. Paying a 1st and 2nd for the privilege of locking an average goalie up for 5/25 isn't getting a starting goalie for basically nothing. And yes, signing a bad player for 4/10 is a bad move.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I mean you guys have to be a bit disappointed that your super-awesome new front office has overpaid for a goalie and targeted plugs like Matt Martin and Kris Russell in free agency, right?
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 not at all. this team isn't ready to contend so signing "plugs" as you say is pretty much exactly what they should be doing. they're still finding their identity. I would rather them sign guys like Martin than shell out money for dudes like Backes. As for overpaying for a goalie, that remains to be seen.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 the canadiens are having a WAY worse offseason, in my IMO
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I am actually pretty satisfied with the Leafs offseason. I haven't had a problem with any of the moves or a lack thereof.

Shouldn't they be trying to add players who are actually good? The obvious concern here is that they think Martin and Russell are good.
Frag Verified Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 This team feels split in what it wants to do sometimes. It's like the team made a deal with Lou or some other "old school" hockey guy in that the analytics group will be heard often as long as the team appeals to the old schooler's yearning for big, gritty guys every once in a while (eg. Keaton Middleton pick, Matt Martin signing).
Cyborg Verified Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 It's going to be hilarious if the Leafs or Habs sign Russell. Such an awful awful player and he'll cost $5M a year long term LOL.
